How do I deal with an entrenched Dread Lord? (Achilles Heel mission, DL campaign)

Instead of going around bonking heads like it usually would, a dread lord frigate is holing up in its homeworld. It's been there, at full health, for like 30 turns. I have a fleet of transports just waiting for an opportunity.

If I throw ships at it, they get it down to 1 HP, then fail to finish off that 1 HP. The fact that I'm playing the campaign through DA, with DA's rules, might have something to do with this.

Is there any reliable way to lure that thing out of its hidey hole, or do I have to sit here for a hundred turns teching to doom rays, or what?

By DA's combat system, you just need to overcome the tie rule. Basically, get it down to 1HP then throw a fleet of pea-shooters at it with more ships than the DL frigate has weapons. If it can't kill them all in the same round it dies, it'll stay dead.

The alternative is to use a bigger hammer. Build a ship that can out-attack the Dread Lords and it's effectively invincible.

Get up to nano rippers or higher, huge hulls, and a moderate level of miniaturization. Engines are optional, but suggested. Once you can design it, rush-buy it. Yes, it will wreck your economy - but you only need one to win.

Either that or tech up defense. 80 or so defense on medium hulls with weak attack is cheaper both tech and cost wise and a fleet of 3 will survive to fire back. OR a bunch of tiny ships with one top defense tech means that if the DL ship gets one bad roll it's done.

The key is to make either of enough ships to survive the round with just enough firepower to kill the DL ship
