Need help playing as the Torian in TA

Hi

I just started a game on TA playing as the Torian on Tough.  I found that the economy build up for the race extremely difficult.  There are like one morale building that you can build for each planet, but that is not so bad.  For some reasons, i have like 43 million people but i am getting like 23 bc per month.  I have like 5 to 7 planets.  Basically, it is extremely hard to have my people paying more taxes.  Even if i increase the tax sliders and maintain it at 70 percent happiness, it seems like they are reluctant to pay more money per percentage increase.  So by the time of one to one in a half game year, my treasuy is at 4000 bc.  Not even the coummnists of the old soviet union are not as stingy as Torians.

I reseasrched all the morale techs, but still no help.

on the other hand, playing as the Korath, the citizens are always like santa claus in the sense they just love to throw away their money.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Based on the information you're giving it sounds like your population is too low. In my game as the Torians every planet have 12 billion happy taxpayers. With the common economy picks, this can add some spare cash to your treasury.

The Torian morale tech tree doesn't confer any passive bonuses so you need to actually build your improvement to enjoy any kind of boost unlike many other races. Why your tax income is so low I can't tell with what you're giving me to work with, or is that your surplus you're running? Perhaps you're at deficit? This causes morale to drop, giving you an incentive to get conservative on your budget.

Every race has their own unique improvements with their accompanying maintenance costs. What works for the Korath may not work for the Torians.

And as a conclusion, SleekDD's (tm) very own colony management approach. ;)
I love building the race-specific one-per-planet improvements. They are usually cheap to build, cheap to maintain and they have nifty effects (which is why I love the Iconians - oh and their huge, honking hulls).

The Torians have a unique factory that gives very cheap production power (Central Mine), a unique farm that boosts population growth (Harvester) and a unique morale building (Temple of Memories).
I build those three, plus a complementary morale building, a starport and some economy buildings.

That's my standard set-up. If I encounter larger planets with manufacturing or research bonuses I will still build the unique improvements but will otherwise devote the planet to production and research (to the degree my budget will allow me).

Using this approach, I can summon a large number of invasion transports or small fighters in relatively short time while my specialized planets build my central ships. Given that my approach with the Torians is about decentralizing manufacturing power, the strategy of using a "carrier" (big ship with fleet modules and massive defences) pays off until I can afford huge all-attack ships.

So, that's all I can give you. If you want more answers, you'll need to give more and accurate information.

- At what tax rate are you?
- Is that 23bc a surplus of your budget or your total income before expenses?
- If it is the surplus, what are your biggest costs? Ship maintenance? Colony maintenance? Production or research costs? Are there any war taxes or starbases/colony taxes draining your treasury?
- What racial ability picks did you select?
- Insert any other useful informative question here. ;)

I hope this helped you out a bit.

Ya,

Agree with above post. Torians are all about the colony rush. If you aren't a colony rush player they might not be good for you. Get a lot of colonies and put central mine, temple, harvester on each world. I think with harvester you get 11 billion people. If you put race points in morale, you don't actually need morale structures beyond temple of memories, if no morale points, you might need 1 extra morale structure(assuming you are at the 11 bil cap).

Once you have a lot of colonies you have decent production spread around from all the central mines. Fill up on econ and research structures. With the high growth rate, you should be at 100% production the whole game. Get the passive bonuses from the tech tree when possible. When you have a huge surplus in money and you need more production start putting factories down.

With all the colonies with huge population and high research, you really just leave the other races behind.

Take at least the +30 economy and +10 morale picks until you get the hang of the Torians.

Don't forget to take advantage of Super Breeder! Drop your tax rate so that you get %100 approval, you get a x4 boost to your population growth. The Torians are great at a massive colony rush because they can build up population on those new colonies so quickly and get the taxes rolling in.
