Tournaments

What I thought they would be and still (maybe)could be.

When first hearing about and seeing the tournaments during the betas I was thinking how awesome this could be if it went hand in hand with the new editors. I remained hopeful that users could create their own scenarios and upload them as tournaments for others to play. Alas that didn't seem to come to pass, but seeing Brad's comments on giving the tournaments some love in upcoming updates has renewed my hope.

I was wondering if this is something that may come to fruition or even possible? Also is it something that people would like to see? I thought it could be a boon for things like the MVL (Metaverse League), where you had a truly level playing field and an easier to keep track of score listing.

That would work. But to get meaningful results you'd have to disable the Save function for that particular scenario.

I like the idea because it might be able to help those of us with attitude problems about less-than-massive maps get some kind of Brush League together. But maybe the Metaverse site UI is the limiting factor--if players can design Tournaments and add them to the system, that dropdown could get to be an awfully long list.

Why? It isn't disabled for the Metaverse in general, and I for one consider the question of how and when to re-load a game a personal matter. Something like this would certainly exclude Tournaments on larger maps, at least for people who have to do things besides play on a computer ;-)

I think if they put together a little upload/download page for the user tourneys and using the filters already in place on the results lists, it shouldn't be to much of a job from the web side. You could use the same filters when looking through the games to download as well. Maybe an approval system like with the mods so no buggy/unplayable maps get uploaded. I know looking in from the outside it seems like it would be simple to do, but of course I really have no idea ;) . Just seemed like something that fit the whole tournament/editor additions so well.

Well, this is for competition, right? Which would be absent if participants can keep re-loading the game when they hit a wall. There are a lot of turn based games that include a re-load counter for PBEM play.

It would be no different than the current "official" tournaments, which work off the same metaverse system. Everyone can save/reload any tourney or meta game now as they please. Basically the only difference is the maps are ones that players create/upload.

Great idea! :CONGRAT:

As long as the map files that are created for tourney play are/can be checked the same way a MV game is for cheats then i see no reason why this wouldn't work. Perhaps posting this idea in Brad's "please slam my game" thread might get it noticed mate. :)
