too many roaming pirates!!!

I havent played GC2 for a year or so and having come back to the basic DA i am amazed to see how many pirates there are. I know they cant invade planents buts there are so many in fleets of 10-20 ships noone can leave thier planets friends and foe alike. Its taking the fun out , is there a simple way to remove them from the game code or something? destroying them is just not possible.

just wait til you get the pirate megaevent in a gigantic galaxy, wohoo 100 fleets killing every single ship and station in the galaxy.
until you get 5 rangers by pure "chance".
fun = destroyed
randomness = wins

I think this is what he is describing

If you don't like the mega events (of which the pirates are one), you can simply turn them off at new game creation.

kryo, could there be any remote chance that we'd get a slider or drop down box in a patch, to let us choose "low, medium, high" rate of such random events?
I LOVE the randomness and "fear" of something happening. But its happening way too much stuff way too often. Its something i feel should happen rarely, not in almost every single game you play.

(Megaevents changing the balance of power UTTERLY, happened more than once in 13 of the 15 games ive played so far)

the situation is absurd, the pirates i encounter have dozens of massive ships with 120 hit points, surley if you must have priates they should be weak and scattered, not all powerfull like something you would expect from the Borg!!! is there a file one can edit to remove/reduce them? as it stands the game is unplayable everyones trade ships are destroyed and stations the game is no fun whatsoever all my attempts to wipe them out are fruitless.

There is also a building under the good alignment that protects your freighters from pirate attack.

I confess, haven't had the issue myself. Wanna buy a few "Lucky Rangers" - my game seems to give them away with cereal box tops. Barely used, just by a little Psilon Grandmother to go to the library every Sunday, Normally I'd ask 110 bc, but for you, 95, since you have an honest face.

In truth, the pirates are a free ride to victory. All you need are transports with high engine speed and you now have the whole galaxy to conquer at your leisure. Not fun in my mind, but there it is.

I have experienced it once and it were a blessing... an alliance of 3 AI's just declared war against me and my krynn max inlfuence planets, then the pirates comes and hold them all at bay while i flip a lot of the AI's planets.

epic win :D

It's been a net benefit for me as well. While the AI tries to build ships, I just turn of ship production and research the techs I need for either fast transports or the ship techs to take out the pirates.

Well expressed, thats exactly how I feel about it ..... but hadnt realised it in a funny sort of way. I hate the Mega events because I know damn well several will popup each game and wreck hours/weeks of hard work on gigantic/immense maps. I therefore have them turned off, which is a shame as its a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

An option to affect the frequency or likelyhood of one showing up would be real good - although I recognise the coding implications of that could be the "Button from Hell"

I just had a pirate mega event in an immense painful battle of the Gods. I sucked to be me for a while. But I noticed something. If you can make troop ship that have two things you can get alot of new territory. The new ships must be way faster and have a huge (eyes of the universe huge) sensor range its a nice oppertunity.I got about three systems before I killed all the pirates in my space. wonder how I would of done if I had a terror star hanging about sorta like swatting flys with Thermobaric or FAE but I wonder if it would work.

Duh

and now I would not blow up my planets just get them to follow a freighter into range.
