What does a locked post mean?

I have seen the post 'What I think will happen to america post" becomed locked. What does a locked post do exactly because I can still enter it.

It means you can't reply to that thread anymore. Threads are usually locked either due to age (thread resurrecting is generally frowned upon) or because of controversial topics being brought up.
