Thalans and starbases in TotA

Are Thalans not supposed to be able to put battle stations on their starbases in Twilight? I noticed the techs for these modules being on the hulls tree, but none of my starbases could apparently have battle stations installed.

I've played a game as Yor since then, might try another as Thalan soon. Using starbases is a lot harder when they don't have any defenses. :P

Also finding the lack of space mining/economy modules annoying, but I think that was a development decision.

There are complaints about this (including some from me) in several TA threads; just add site:forums.galciv2.com to a web search for Thalan and starbase and you should get over a hundred hits.

Given that this game that has grown to include an option to disable tech trading, I'm pretty frustrated that in TA my favorite civ apparently requires tech trading if they want to get the same value from resource mines as other civs. The gaps re econ starbases and asteroid mines are also frustrating to those of us who wonder what the Super Hive ability means in TA.

I suppose this could eventually force me to learn how to be a better tech trader, but nothing else so far has made me get over my impression that the computer players are in a research consortium that I can never join.

The Thalan lacking Battle Station Mark I is definitely a mistake that'll hopefully be rectified in the next patch.

I'm actually pretty sure that the lack of resource mining/economy starbase modules is a mistake rather than a deliberate decision. It affects almost all the races with non-standard production tech trees: the Iconians, the Yor, the Thalan (although they do get one upgrade as part of their Hyperion starbases tech) and the Korath (although the Drengin get their own special starbase upgrades which aren't quite equivalent but are still pretty good.

In addition (I think) nearly all of the above races can research "Smart Drones" as a module but can't actually install it as the prerequisite module "Massive Scaling Center" is not available to them.
