frame rates in toa

I have some technical questions about frame rates in toa and my computer.

1. they seem to run from 2 fps zoomed out all the way to aprox. 25-30fps zoomed in all the way

2. when I press ctrl f to get my frame rate reading it reads(shader) in brackets, what does shader mean???

I'm playing on a med. map all abundant with 4 opponents my screen resolution is 1280x960 and my anti alias is set at 4x.

I know my computer is getting old but is there any thing I can do to improve preformance on my rig?

these are my system specs.

The framerate is lower zoomed out than in? That doesn't really make much sense; generally it's exactly the opposite. And neither should be that low on a x1950.

My Comp is only half as good as yours and i almost never experience such low fps.

Maybe try to update your sounddriver or cheack if any other apllications are running.

Unless it's from redrawing the map. I've gotten stutters from accidently edge-scrolling the thing when zoomed out on similar hardware without everything set to abundant. I'm willing to admit it's probably my own stupidity, but I've an uncanny ability to queue up multiple scrolls when the entire map is on display. I habitually zoom back in on small maps between turns now, so only an edge or two is visible.

I'll look to update my sound drivers,I'm not sure if that'll do anything though.
I also turned everything off in the background so I don't think anything in the bacground is affecting the fps. Also when I'm zoomed out all the way I thought the fps should improve not get worse?
I really don't know what could be causing this but if I don't get any suggestiions from anyone I might have to wipe my drive and re-install evtything cleanand hope for the best.

thats my feeling exactly I don't really understand why this is happening the fps sometimes drop below 2 when zoomed out all the way.
Before I upgraded my grafix card I had to play most games zoomd out all the way to get decent framerates when I was playing da, now I have to zoom in while playing ta with a better grafix card to get better frame rates?
Like I said I'm not too technically inclined on computers if I can't solve the problem I I'll reinstall and hope that helps.
