Newbie Question: Patching GalCiv2 Gold + Twilight

Yet another newbie question:

I own GalCiv2 Gold and Twilight of the Arnor.  When I install GalCiv2 Gold and then go to Stardock Central to patch it, should I just run the patch for Dark Avatar, or should I also run the patch for GalCiv2?

Also, on my current installation of the game, I first installed GalCiv2 Gold, and then installed Twilight of the Arnor from Stardock Central.  I then updated Twilight to patch it.  When I tried to run Twilight, I got an error message saying that I needed to update Dark Avatar.  So, I went back on to Stardock Central and ran the update for Dark Avatar.

Is my patching-out-of-order going to mess up my game?  In other words, should I unistall and remove all directories, and then re-install?  Or am I good to go with my current installation, described above?

Thanks.

Patching out of order shouldn't harm you since each game is in its own folder. But to be safe, if you have to update both GalCiv2 and Dark Avatar, it couldn't hurt to do GalCiv2 first.

Well, again, the issue is that I have GalCiv2 Gold, not just GalCiv2 + the Dark Avatar expansion, so I'm confused as to whether or not I should patch GalCiv2, or if the the Dark Avatar patch will take care of that.

The Dark Avatar patch will not take care of GalCiv2. You have to patch both. Gold just means you got both together in the box, but it's the same as if you bought them separately.

Well, the reason for my confusion is that it's not the same. It's not as if I got one CD for GalCiv2:Dread Lords and one CD for Dark Avatar. I have two CDs, but it's just a single install (halfway through the install it asks you to put in the second CD, just to copy over more files). In fact, when you put in the first CD with autorun turned on, the autorun screen is "Dark Avatar".

So, Gold is not exactly that I got both together in the box, because that for me would be one CD labeled GalCiv2:Dread Lords, and another CD labeled GalCiv2:Dark Avatar, which is definitely not what I have.

Please don't get me wrong, Hollow Man; I absolutely appreciate your help. It just seems like there are two version of "Gold" out there. One with two separate installs, and the one I have which is just a single install. That's why I'm confused.

So the reason why I'm wondering if I should patch GalCiv2:Dread Lords is because I don't want that patch to overwrite any Dark Avatar stuff, which is a later patch.

They may have created the install so it does both games at the same time, but the end result is the same. They are three separate games, and they get installed in three different folders:

C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Twilight

They have three different version numbers (1.5, 1.80g, and 1.91), and there are three separate executables, so you can run whichever one you want.

No matter how you slice it, each should be updated. You don't even have to install from the discs. You can simply register the serial numbers and download the games from Stardock Central or Impulse.
