Disapearing Turn Button

I already submitted this to stardock but I thought I would ask here in case they missed it and also to see if anyone else has encountered this problem. I remember this game having this problem way back in the first release (dread lords) on a completely different computer, so I am surprised that the game still has this bug all these years later.
Basically, I will be playing along and then I hit the turn button and it disappears and never comes back. I can still move the map around and access the menu but reloading does nothing to fix the problem. If I restart the game and reload the turn button is back but only for a turn or two and then it is gone again.
Obviously the game is unplayable with this bug. I feel pretty angry that I spent $60 on re-buying this game and I can not play it.
As I said I already submitted this to stardock along with the requisite files. I hope they fix it soon. Like today. Or at least acknowledge that they are working on it.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I have this problem in my current game. It seems somehow related to all of my ships suddenly having 0 range. If I reload a save and click the turn button before I close the research menu sometimes I can play a turn or two more before it hangs up.

I have this bug as well. In my game, it appeared after I started using rally point for the first time in this game. I suspect it may have something to do single ships that are automatically fleeted at a rally point. In this situation those "fleets" somehow didn't regenerate their movement points and caused a turn button freeze.

I don't know if this is the same problem, but I've had my turn button dissappearing as well, but it returns after I click the FIND-button.

This happens to me. What is causing it for me is after a ship auto-attacks an enemy, that ship gets "stuck". If I left click on the ship that last attacked, it moves and everything goes back to normal. If I cannot find that ship, however, my turn button remains gone and I have to save/quit. I have to repeat this process after every ship attack.

If any of you have saves that present these issues even after reloads, please zip them up and send them to [email protected] with a description of the issue you're having, and directions to reproduce it (even if it's just "click the turn button twice").

I've had it once or twice. The last time was with a space miner not moving.

This is what happend;
Space miner goes into standby. (no more asteroids)
Move miner off asteroid, so you can redirect flow.
Put miner into standby.

Research next mining tech.
End turn.
Missing turn button.
Space miner has auto path but doesn't move.

Clicking stop auto on space miner sends miner off on auto.

Turn button reappears.

I have had this occur. A way around it is to launch a ship from a planet and make it move - then the game will go to the next ship and the turn button will reappear - I think it has to do with a planet/end point suddenly being conquered or when ships need re-routed suddenly....

Often an easier way to fix it is to press the tab button. This should tell the game to search for a ship that still has something to do. Then make it do something if the turn button doesn't come back. This works better than the find button for some reason.

Don't know if this helps diagnose the problem at all, but when I went into options and unchecked the following options, it stopped happening:

(Interface Tab)
Uncheck:
Full Fleet Battles
Show Full Fleet Battles only if Both sides are Fleets
Auto-Play Full Battles
Show Orbiting ship in planet in normal and quick battles

I unchecked them all at the same time so I didn't narrow it down, but at least its a starting point.

Well, I tried all of the suggestions in this thread and none of them worked. I even dispensed with miners all together. This has happened in modded and nonmodded games. I just sent in yet another savegame to stardock so hopefully they will do something about this. Until then, I am just going to go play something else.

I too am having this problem, intermitantly. What I find is that, if I reload, it simply happens again on the next turn. If I Close out completely, it "Usually" doesn't recurr.

I can't say that I have noticed this happening significantly, nor can I track it back to a specific action/set of actions. But I just figure that, with everything the game is doing, it reaches a system call and never returns a response.

I will try the "tab" solution and report if it works for me.

This is happening to me too (in ToA and Dark Avatar). It happens when I first clicked on a fleet at a rally point.

Just got this one too. Saves were emailed to stardock, hopefully they soon resolve it. An immense Metaverse game of mine is now stuck right at half of the game - that sucks =/

I really do not understand this bug. Yesterday there was no way for me to continue my game - the turn button did neither appear in the main savegame, nor in the autosaves - even after reloading. Today i loaded the earliest autosave, tried it and it worked. I loaded my savegame that i had sent in, clicked on turn - and the button again did disappear. But today somehow i am able to just open the main menu, go back to the game and there it is - that definitely not worked yesterday. Strange thing. But at least i can continue my game now ;)

I have had this happen intermittently, usually later in the game when there's alot of ships etc. It's tied to movement for sure, and happens much more frequently if I click on an opponents ship or starbase. It like the game gets confused as to which player I am.

I cycle through every ship I have... usually I can find the one that's stuck. I am going to keep a ship in orbit on purpose from now on, because it seems once you can get a ship to actually move, the game resets the turn order and the button reappears. Launching a ship from orbit and moving it is the easiest way to do it. I will try the tab button idea though... it seems that may be easier still.

It is not a consistent thing by any stretch of the imagination... and the only correlation I have been able to make thus far is clicking on an opponents ships or starbase. Perhaps others of you who have the issue can verify that or let me know if it's just me...

I've had this happen. It happens when a ship is waiting for a user response. Sometimes it's hard to find the ship that is waiting. Normally I just press 'G' or space to end the ship's movement, and the turn continues.

After having the problem a few times now i can further specify it. I do not know what exactly causes it, but pressing the space bar as suggested here solves it. As well, going to the main menu sometimes does solve it too. If I move ships manually i sometimes see a followup move of another ship but then again everything stops and no turn button. It seems to be something with the automatic movement of ships at the end of a round.

I found that works for me, too.

Do any of you who are having this disappearing turn button problem have ships set on auto-explore? It occurred to me as I was reading another thread about auto-explore ships getting stuck, that that might explain why hitting the space bar might get you going again.

I had a ton of fleets set to auto-attack when it started happening.

Maybe it's related, then. I've never had the disappearing turn button problem, but I never use auto-attack/auto-explore.

This happens when ships/fleets are set to auto-attack, and then they perform an action (like an attack) and (for an as yet unknown reason) they stop and wait for user input instead of continuing automatically.

As an example, let's imagine that a ship begins it's turn in auto-attack mode and starts by moving a bit and then attacking an enemy ship in planetary orbit. The attack is successful, but now the ship needs to either attack the next ship or move towards another target...and this is where the game stops. Only user intervention will allow the turn to continue; Otherwise the game appears to be frozen.

Moving a ship by clicking with the mouse or hitting the spacebar will put the game back into motion and allow the turn to finish. Keep in mind, another ship in auto-attack mode can cause this to occur again in the turn, so there may be multiple inputs needed depending on your strategy. The other option is not to use auto-attack.
There are several threads where this is happening to folks.

Hope this helps.

Same problem here... Sometimes the Turn button is visible, but inactive, sometimes is is all grayed out. Pressing "tab" "spacebar" "G" has no effect. save-quit-restart has no effect. Clicking on every ship in the galaxy has no effect. I can go into my econ and diplo screens, but game is essentially frozen. Save game sent in yesterday, hope someone can help...

Hitting the turn button, then the tab key to find ships that couldn't figure out what to do with themselves worked. Thank so much! I had just about given up on this particular game. I'd reloaded from a few turns back and replayed those turns, doing slightly different things each time, and it always died at the same point (ingame march 8th of the current year). That's pretty odd, isn't it? Searching these forums for a mention of the problem was tough too, so if you don't mind I'll write a few of my search terms in here to aid future sufferers. Turn doesn't end! Can't end turn! Turn button does nothing! :)
