Version 1.9a is now available at i-mod (no approval time 4 me ;) ) or in the library


v1.9b will activate the terraincolorschemes for asa at some time later.

Goal is, make v1.9 the last release before GC 2.0 has come out ;)

v1.9a:
-unique planet textures and heightmaps, thx to nasty
-implemented the 3 special ships ;)
-implemented the assimilator ship class (attacktransport)
-fixed shiptemplates for colony/mining ship
-tweak all unique weapon's fx, thx to stefan
-fixed bug, where spaceminers were not able to upgrade asteroidbases
-many tweaks to maintainance and costs generally, its a lot harder now
-1 new eco tech branch & buildings
-2 new techs & PI (ZaYsaX Psi generator & Teleporter)
-added 1 techlevel to each weapon type

-various tweaks

v1.7b
-fixes a crash when playing any other race
-fixes invisible shipstyles :)
-fixes the evil accessible weapon techs on gamestart

- introduction of the asa ship style


Does anybody know, how to override Improvements requiring a tech which has some hardcoded ability?
For example: UniversalTranslator & Embassy, BasicStarport, StarDemocracy&PoliticalCapital?
If I change eg the starports image and assign a Techrequirement, the the new starport is there, but tho old supposed to be overridden one, as well, but disappears, once you build your customized building :(
Same for the other mentioned techs...

Well. the racepic is set to the default one, but I forgot to include the script, for copying/renaming, I simply forgot to update from my svn server ;p

Generally, the problem was not related to the pics path, rather than a shipdef problem.
In short, if you create a shipstyle, be careful that you create & name colonyship, survership and spaceminer as they are defined in the game folder for the other races with the corresponding prefix! If you redefine/change one of those starting ships, then they won't show up, since the starting ship names seem to be hardcoded, and hence all races want to build eg. the colonyfounder instead of just the custom race.



Btw, can anybody send me the original custom_race.png? I accidentially overwrote it :LOL:

Yes I like the pics, but I like "my" racepic more. The guy looks somehow "evilish", mysterious and not to joke with ;)
However, the racelogo will make it into the mod.
Its nice, fitting the "bio style" :CONGRAT: Guess it is the World Tree "Yggdrasil" ?

Yep, and it's okay for the pics since, i too actually felt that they were less "Sci-Fi'ish" than they could have been (German mythology is not of Galactic proportions, that's true!).
Let's see if i can google_up some other *Odin_Aesir_Nor* type of stuff which would somehow feel more like the bio-oriented-weakerish-weapon like that the Asa is made of.
A tiny touch of dark magenta in places, Viking inspired, etc.

You're the boss of your things!
But since you seemed to express a need for a unique set of race images, i answered.

Tell me what you really think could effectively replaced the previous in your own WORDS and maybe, i'll fix something up.

Well, I think, the raceportrait has already got its pic, since its my standard portrait since GC2 came out. Except you present something really striking.
Unfortunately, I only have some basic gfx editing skills, very little.
If it is possible for you, to get the logo looking with the green-purple color scheme, as well as some shiny effect as the standard logos have, that would be awesome. Maybe I'm asking the impossible.
It was taking me about 15 min now just to switch some colors X-(

Oh yes, I'd love to have 4 planet pics, raws and 2 rings.
If you can provide that, it would be fantastic and worth a credit maybe a ship class "Nasty Tang" :D Some greenish purpleish bluish rings would be nice, I like the 2 top rings

yeah that in the raceconfig xml you have to make a customrace and edit in the homestar as well as the home planet and make sure all your .ini are new once you are set on everything !!!(AFAIK) that`s how I got it to work for me !!!

Consider it done... and, i'll do my very best and PM the result @I-Mod as soon as i "think" it may fit the above requirements.

To me, though, the green (as reflected in the initial version) is much more like a Fluorescent trick which will be changed to your wanted "Dark-Cyan" type. Blame this on the way i perceive colors and how i identify the wheel primaries!
And the shiny feel has much more to do with how the usual but indirect glowing shadow develops underneath and through the alpha channeling transparency variations. Btw, the only way to really distinguish the slight effects is to load it into the game itself since, for example, as soon as a Moon passes behind these -- the shaping becomes obvious. Besides, the graph bars are also a good reference to check if it shows the proper way.

All of this for a simple but realistic 128x128_32b Yggdrasil Tree of Life Logo. I like it.

Although the Asa benefits from a HPQ +50 ability bonus, i recon that Alfheim(3), Utgrad(1) and Midgard(2) could use some extra tiles too!

Must be my own tendency with heavily stacking the X-Worlds starting conditions on nearby Homeworlds' assets of the many Races - creeping up again!

I simply hate the flip-flop eventuality, the wasted potential and the whole strengths evaluation period as it relates to anything already reddishly forbidden and far away. By all means, stack the deck - it's a mod after all.

I thought so! Since you expressed a preference for 'shiny' effects, it was pretty straight forward editing through some key filter-plugin... and, many thanks for ZaYsaX Heavy-Escort!

PS1; Once you're done with the essentials (in fact, it seem like that race is almost complete feature-wise unless you have MORE to add in!), could it possible for you to sortof explain the general method for ship/style/yard/activation/etc creation? So that i could eventually refer to some reliable facts once i *FINALLY* begin the daunting task(s) required for the whole complex XW-Ships armada. Please? :)
No rush or anything, just IF you could.

PS2; Planet qualities?

PS3; SirNastyofTang rendition of Asgard?

Yes, the basic essentials are done, I think the techtree is (almost) complete, same for the rest of data files. Last tasks will be to "pimp" the race gfx wise. If Nasty provides some planet material, the starsystem will be redone, and finally some tuning and tweakin for costs generally, as well as shipmodule tweaking.
But this depends on the feedback, because at the moment I haven't got enough time to extensively playtest myself :(

PS1:
The easiest way is to cheat for all research and build the ship in the ship yard.
Once you've done the ship(s) leave the game
go to ..\MyDocuments\..\MyGames\GC2TwilightArnor\ships
say you have an Escort.xml & Sx_UD_Escort0.shipcfg (+1 index by upgrading ingame)
1. rename shipcfg to Sx_Escort.shipcfg
2. open the Escort.xml delete the whole userdefined tag, and change the model to the name of the shipcfg in this case "Escort"
3. do basically the same for the shiptemplate, I left a "T" in shipcfg name to distinguish between template and ship. The model tag in the template would read "T_Escort"

Thats all, except you need to make sure that you don't define any coreship in GC2Ships.
This does not apply for the 3 starting ships, ColonyShip, SpaceMiner & SurveyShip
You should not change the name attribute & model, though you can build them in shipyard but the classname=name attribute! Better take SDs naming convention for them, otherwise invisible ships & crash as in v1.7

PS2: I think th PQs of the 3 other planets are fair, since the asa profit from slightly more powerful terraforming techs + some PQ bonuses via research and PI
Basically I tried to design the asa not to rush expand, more a very powerful "minor" at start, sticking in their own system and start slowly to expand by many means :)

PS3: I don't know, but I would like to implement his good stuff
