Can't change screen resolution

Howdy,

Installed the game from Stardock a couple of days ago with no problem whatsoever. The first time I started the game up, everything looked fine and I went through the options to up the graphics levels screen resolution. That went fine too, and I played some and shut it down normally. However, the next time I started the game, the resolution was back at 1024x768 and the other resolution options aren't even showing up on the list so that I can change them back! I searched around here and didn't see anything about it, has anyone else seen this problem and/or know a way to fix it? Otherwise, the game plays great and I haven't had any problems, I'd just like to see things a bit more refined if possible.

I encountered, not the same but, a similar problem.

I tried the game out in windowed mode, and no matter which resolution I picked, the window was always 1024x768. It was un-resizable, and unchanging, no matter which resolution size I picked.

The user.setting file, located in:

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

will allow you to manually change the resolution (both full screen and windowed) manually and you can open it with Notepad. I'm not sure why it let you change it once but not any consecutive attempts, or why it reverted to 1024x768, but changing it manually should work.

As for the windowed mode, if you don't change the default resolution for windowed, it will always start in 1024x768 but it should be resizeable - I run in Windowed all the time and resize it, so that's odd too.

I know there were a few issues but I *think* they were due to old/integrated graphics chips though I'm not completely sure.

If you've changed your monitor's refresh rate from the default of 60, You may also need to manually change that setting in the file that Annatar talks about above. I had to do this in order to get display options to show up in game for my monitor (which I have set to a refresh rate of 85).

Windowed mode does default to 1024x768, but you should be able to resize or maximize it as any other window. I use windowed mode all the time myself.
