map editing

im wondering if theres a way to eithar modify a saved game map or if theres ways to modify the random placement of planets / stars in a map when using map editor

what i want to set up is an immense map with limited stars/ planets and abundant resources/anomilies however when i hit randomize it generates way to many planets/stars for my liking and i dont want to place them all individually because then the universe will seem to organized also it doesent generate any asteroid fields from what i can see

but i would also like to modify some of the starting planet quality lvls location and start ships that each race get

so any hints

Generate your map. Click on a star and hit the delete key and the system (star and all planets) will be deleted. You can edit the planets in question and delete or add resources in the same way. Random generation is, after all, Random! It's still better then creating a whole map by placing each star and planet. I generate a map, play on it and then edit it to what I need.

Well,

is it possible to edit a map wich was createt in the game itself? Or better to say, i start a game outside the editor - with a new random created map. After playing for a while i save the game.

After quiting TOA i start the editor to edit THIS saved map! But.....no way! So is it me, or is this feature not implemented?

I do not beleive that GC2 will let you export a map out of a game. It would be nice to be able to save a 'game generated map' when you get into a good game that you'd like to replay as a "what if."

If there's ever someone daring enough to create a powerful and efficient *.sav files editor_scanner_modifier_viewer... i certainly will be amongst those who will give it a good look!

Mind you, i've already given the above 'project' a thought or two using the good'ol hex-inspection methods; all that's missing is a genuine SD_programmers' release of the file structural data & values.
Essentially giving a huge editing power to the players in supplement of the 'introductory' forms like the TotA current editing tools.

Although, custom maps and campaign designs (etc) BY us is certainly a tremendous indirect asset to GC developpers, btw.

I consider the map editor to be really disappointing: limited or no customization, different planets than a "real" galaxy (no gas giants, for instance), no possibility to choose the planets maps or the tile specials, etc.

So Zyxpsilon, you would get my heartly thanks if you'd apply your ingenuity to the problem ;)

End of quote

Just save each game (with a unique name) when first started, before you do anything.
Then you can play it over and over again in 'what if' mode.

It would be nice to "what if" change AI races or 'tweek' your race.
