Custom Race Trouble

After the latest update I dont see my Custom Race anymore in the load screen. I checked the my documents folder on Vista and there is an Empire and an XML file. What is the problem?

Extensions were changed from;
1) DL = *.customracexml
to...
2) TA = *.raceconfigxml

It worked for me as it should for anyone else.

I've been having similar problems with custom races. I get intermittent messages when starting metaverse games that there's something wrong with the race configuration. This message is not particularly helpful since I usually play with several custom races and there's no indication which race or what the problem is. The problem with the races seems intermittent because once or twice the metaverse game has started with no problems, and on other occasions, with the same custom races enabled, I get error messages.

Also, from time to time, I can't get a custom race to appear in the load list after designing it, but if I restart the game it will appear.

Were they races you made during the beta, or edited by hand? It's safest to only use races customized in-game and made in the same version for the metaverse.

Understood. I tried to reconfigure the races and cleared it and restarted the race, but I am still getting the error message. I've narrowed the problem down to races I'm using as opponents. For some reason, it is telling me the metaverse game will not work with the custom race configuration, but damned if I can figure out where the problem is.

If you cut it down to one opponent at a time, can you isolate a particular one causing the error? If so, send it in to [email protected] with a description of the problem.

Thanks, Kryo. That actually occurred to me also and I think I've resolved the problem. Basically, instead of doing the "Clear" procedure as instructed, I jotted down the settings for the custom characters, then left the GCII program and deleted all the raceconfig files associated with those races. Then I restarted the program and re-created the races. So far, I haven't had any problems with them now so I think the problem is solved, but if not, I'll send the files to you.

Thanks for your response. Oh, and just as an aside, re-creating the races probably would have been a little easier if there was a "Race Editor" along the lines of the other editors (hint, hint)  :)

Thanks again!
