Small suggestions ---> Great joy for me

These relatively minor suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Well, at least they appear minor to my non-programmer self.

1) I like big galaxies, and even immense seems small.  A large part of that is due to range having been a complete non-factor for me, ever, in GCII.  Your starting tech alone can just about send a colony ship as far as I've ever needed to have it go.  I remember having to build starbases in GC just to extend my range enuogh to reach some isolated clusters, even after having researched some range techs, and seeing the AI do the same.  Right now, range techs are particularly useless to me, and the AI only wastes resources researching them.

I would personally like to see the range be the same on immense maps as it is in tiny maps (wasn't it like that in GC?), or reduced as much as possible without gimping the AI.  Since this might not suit everyone, perhaps this is something that could be an option in the game setup.  Oh, and if you could also make a galaxy larger than immense, well, that'd be nice too.

2) I think that it would be really cool if bonus tiles could be located on tiles unusuable without terraforming.  They could either be visible or discovered only after the tile is terraformed, but either way it would allow for continued interest in colony development in mature colonies.  Just imagine the additional impetus to developing terraforming techs that would come with knowing they would unlock a couple of Precursor libraries or factories.

I would think that that initially unusable tiles should be even slightly more likely to have bonus tiles.  After all, perhaps those ruins became ruins because of natural or industrial disasters, making the site unfit for use without significant improvement.  And, of course, those silly Precursors just had to build in the darndest of places, didn't they?

I actually like the idea behind #2. In fact, precursor tiles for manufacturing and research would make sense to be on a tile needing to be terraformed. Sort of like discovering something useful from the old ruins located in a swamp on the planet or something.

Would kinda make those PQ 1's more attractive.

I suggested #2 back in November. Several others have as well. Maybe we'll see it for the 2.0 update.

I really like #2. It would add a new dimension to planet development.

I've also offered the same suggestion a few times.

As for your first suggestion, I think that is a great idea! Shrinking the range bonuses would make the game more interesting, give greater value to those starbases, make the galaxy feel even larger, and would not cost any additional memory on your pc.

I second this one Stardock!

Take Cover ! Brad's gonna freek out over that one

His view on Immense when he posted the series of TA screen shots on 24 April:

Immense sized galaxies are offensively large. Ridiculously large. You people are insane

(shhhh - dont tell anyone ...... I agree with you, PaulAuger ...... long live Gargantuan Maps with Black Hole Gateways to parallel Dimensions - that'll have Brad gibbering for a few weeks  )

I like both ideas too, but especially number one! immense maps pretty much feel like a smaller map with slower ships and more planets to micromanage, as you still end up with the same percentage of the map after the colony rush than you do on smaller maps. it's just nine immense civ territories covering the immense map instead of the nine large civ territories covering a large map, and everything else scales accordingly. if it were actually difficult to get from one system to the next (and take decades to ever be able to have ships going from one side to the next) it would add a lot to making the map feel as big as it is. though to ever have any competitive incentive in that situation you would need a lot more than nine opponents, which would also be nice.

Edit (analogies are fun!): Pretend you wanted a bigger house, so you went out and bought a fancy enlarging ray gun contraption and applied it to your home, it's now twice the size! but you didn't read the instructions and accidentally enlarged yourself as well, consequently, nothings really changed.
