Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor has been released!

Stardock is pleased to announce the general availability of the second (and final) expansion pack to Galactic Civilizations II.  The new expansion pack, Twilight of the Arnor, adds hundreds of new features, gives each civilization a unique technology tree, a unique set of planetary improvements, star base modules, ship parts, and more.

Moreover, with Twilight of the Arnor, Stardock went back and revamped the graphics for the game to bring them up to the state of the art.  A new sound track has also been added along with updates to the computer AI.  It also reintroduces the Terror Star, the ultimate weapon last seen in the original Galactic Civilizations as well as a new victory condition called Ascension. Online tournaments have also been added to allow people to compete at playing the same map and scenario and submit their scores to the GalCiv metaverse.

The expansion also includes the conclusion to the Dread Lords saga in the form of the Twilight of the Arnor campaign.

And finally, to keep the game evolving for years to come, Stardock includes a half dozen newly developed editors that will help modders and end users alike such as a map editor, scenario editor, campaign editor, tech editor, ship component editor, and much more.

The expansion pack is $29.95.  It requires the previous expansion (Dark Avatar) to also be installed. New players can purchase the integrated "Ultimate Bundle" for $59.95 and get the entire Galactic Civilizations II saga.

Hmm i just assumed the 20 dollars was a distance calculation? Like when I tried it said 20 dollars cos I am in the UK.Is it 20 dollars no matter what that? That seems a hell of a lot for delivery - even by Rip-Off Britain standards its steep...
End of quote

Yeah, it's $20 for delivery in the U.S. It seems just a *tad* bit off.

Keilworth: You can find the editors from the TA launch gadget, it's located in the Twilight install directory, and called TAlaunch (funnily enough  ) and the button for the editors is... well you don't want me to go to that much detail do you? (oh well, below the Manual button!)

I noticed that the recommended Ram is 1 gig. Would 768 be good enough?
512MB  would probably be enough actually.

But one question...where can I find the editors? I got it via digital download, and I can't find any of the editors anywhere.

Run the launch gadget (run the game from SDC or Impulse) and click editors.

AH, very good news. I have just one question. Have you a finally added the Altarian Armour Upgrade (I think it was "Enhanched Armour"), the one that said: TODO?

Yes, that should be enough. My old PC (2600+, 512 MB RAM) had no problems with the Beta, so I guess it should work. It should run even better according to the less use of resources for ships. What did they say? - The ships need only 10 - 20 % of the former memory usage?
Of cause you should have more than 512 MB RAM if you don't want to wait 2 - 3 minutes when you load a savegame.

If I recall correctly, the retail box is being sent to those who want a cd sent to them. It's the only thing I can think of that would explain the increase in price.
There is no retail box. Only a disc.

WHY don't I see that GOddamn box at Frys or Best Buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shopping in the physical sense is PART of collecting... and Stardock has taken this option away!

I am not fucking happy with y'alls decision.....

WHAT is this? Is this true?

$20 to ship a single game box?

Say it isn't so.... I'm about to lose it here.

WHAT!?

$30 for the game, and IF I WANT A BOX, I HAVE TO PAY AN EXTRA $20

IS THIS FOR REAL!?

If this had simply came to the store at $40 (Frys and Best Buy do $5 off), I'd be going home with it for $35 plus tax.

WTF is going on here!??

NeuralTech, relax. Dark Avatar was only available as a single disc in sleeve from Stardock too. They did put a box that had it and GalCiv2 on the shelf, and maybe if it looks cost effective they'll do the same with Twilight. But for now this is what we got.

I'm sure the shipping shouldn't be $20. kryo said a day or so ago if it was coming up as $20 for USA customers, it was probably a mistake. Contact sales and ask them.

Good morning guys... Stardock,

The reason I'm acting like a little girl and having these knee jerk reactions is because I can see this becoming a popular trend among gaming Publishers, and it worries me. Too much worry about "cutting" costs vs. simply getting the product to the customer - THAT combined with the fact that it cuts into my routine of shopping.

Now... Stardock, if making a "cut" like this is necessary in order to bring your customers the best work possible, THEN 'that' I can understand. If doing something like this to save money means GalCiv III will be a reality someday, 'then' I'm all for it.

Lashing out at everyone this week - sorry Stardock.... I love your work, and you sure don't deserve to be cursed out in this manner by a customer. I'm an *ssh*le and

I'm sorry,

Chr*s

If ordering it online is the only way to go, then by God: I'll be ordering it today!

Domestic shipping should be $10, not $20. If you're seeing something different than that, contact [email protected].

$10 to ship a single game.....  :NOTSURE:

If they made a box up... why didn't they just spend that money to ship them to the stores instead of having their customers endure the extra cost?

Honest Question,

Chr*s

I do hope there's a good boxed copy I can acquire without much difficulty. I already own the original and Dark Avatar, but I'd LOVE to have the nice box adorning my desk. (And I'd really rather not pay much extra for it with the economy as it is.)

The problem isn't shipping to stores, the problem is paying for shelf space. They apparently tried to strike a reasonable deal with Gamestop/EBgames and were turned down.

And I don't think there's even a box. The image shown is a mock-up. The CD comes in a sleeve type thingy.

Correct; it will come in a sleeve, just like the Dark Avatar expansion they mailed out.

Yeah, I contacted them yesterday and received notification of a $10 refund.

I'm not certain if this refund is being corrected for everyone that had this error, but if you did get this bug, you should probably contact sales anyway.

Is it just me or before the Update the victory condition had a bug ^^. Stop the alliance of the dread lords with the korath clan so i went after the Korath..Got all there planets....Didn't end the mission? :(...Ended up sending fleets of ships to the Dread Lord planet only to be blown out of the sky until i decided to sit back and just surround the planet and wait till i get Huge Hulls and advanced Phasors to actually stand a chance....On a small map!..Imagine i had to use expensive Invention Matrix and Discovery spheres to speed up research on a small map ^^. The first mission really sucked because of the bug-but hey next mission rocks....Got a gift from a friend.

Wow Stardock.
Seriously.

I've been playing since GalCiv I (2003 one that is...), and I can't help but feel like Twilight is really capturing the essence of the whole concept of GalCiv.

I preorded this and just got to play my first game last night.

Blown away. Everything is great and it really feels like a gem of a game. It's all the little things and the wonderful strategic and tactical choices that the player can make: the fleet and territory bonus components.

For the first time I really want to try each race because now they aren't just "clones" with the same tech tree, and even the special abilities couldn't hide that beyond a certain depth.

I want to say thank you.
I honestly don't buy many PC games anymore since I decided to buy a next-gen console and have stopped buying the latest video cards, but GalCiv II continues to look beautiful (great work on the textures!) and continues to impress with smart gameplay that is fun.

Keep up the good work!!

I pre-ordered an overseas CD copy which obviously has not arrived yet but it is also not available to me for download.
