Stardock, Gas Powered Games team up

PLYMOUTH, MI- April 7, 2008- Stardock and Gas Powered Games announced today that they have reached a publishing agreement for Gas Powered Games' upcoming PC game, Demigod.

Demigod is a team-based action game with RTS and RPG elements. Players take control of a massive Demigod with the goal of annihilating their opponent's position in a given arena while preventing the opponent's Demigod from doing the same to them. Although the game supports superb one-on-one duels, the title will truly shine in team play either with other human-controlled Demigods or with ones controlled by a sophisticated computer AI. As the game progresses, the player's Demigod will acquire items, attributes and experience.

Gas Powered Games, having become one of the leading PC game developers with hit titles such as Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander chose Stardock as its exclusive worldwide PC publisher in part because of Stardock's tremendous success with the award-winning Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations.

"Forging our new partnership with Stardock is a big deal for all of us at GPG, and we couldn't be more excited about it," said Chris Taylor, founder and CEO of Gas Powered Games. "Not only do we have a proven retail publisher, but we get to partner with a pioneer in the digital distribution space a company that totally understands what kind of experience our customer wants and the quality game they demand. The whole proposition is truly refreshing."

Stardock's most recent release, Sins of a Solar Empire was the top selling PC strategy game at retail according to NPD, and the second highest selling PC game overall despite selling immense numbers of copies digitally which are not counted in sales rankings. The game has received universally high reviews in the media and many have noted how seamlessly Stardock and developer Ironclad worked together.

"Were very excited at the opportunity to work with Gas Powered Games," said Brad Wardell, president and CEO of Stardock. "By integrating our teams and working together, we will be able to create something that represents the best of both teams."

To fully support a public beta that will launch this summer, the launch date for Demigod has been moved to February 2009. This will give the development team sufficient time to incorporate feedback from the beta players while polishing the game. Like Stardock's other games, Demigod will be released without any on-disc copy protection and has been budgeted to receive many months of free post-release feature updates.

The official website for Demigod is in the works, but users who want to begin discussing the game can visit http://www.demigodthegame.com.

Just let me say that I'm glad to hear that.
I was not too interested in Demigod because until now there wasn't too much information about it. But knowing that Stardock will be behind this make me hope for the best.

Also Demigod could be the first of Stardock related games with a potentially wider target of customers, so this is indeed an intresting news.

Cheers!

Congratulations to Stardock for landing such a big fish and good luck to GPG; I've really liked Supreme Commander and its expansion and will definitely be taking a look at Demigod...

Honestly I hope all the DRM fanatics and their peddlers like Starforce, Pace Software, Sony Securom and the rest choke on their own bile. I despise companies that punish their customers and for example won't buy Bioshock until it's $9.99 and put out by Valusoft.

Heh well it worked, i checked back again on monday to see what all the fuss was about.

I wont do it again.

Continuing with the pessimistic vibe. I don't see what all the (continued, persistent, ongoing) fuss over digital distribution is about, new ways to flog us stuff, pretty much sums it up for consumers. Albeit, mostly easy to access competitively priced "stuff" slash crap.

...wow.

I was really excited about Demigod. I was really impressed by Stardock. Now, I get both.

Is the world supposed to work this way? I think I've found religion.

If we order it though Stardock Central, can we get in BETAs?

For all wanting more...

The Demigod announcement is really a smaller peice of the pie...to pool the best resources of our three studios is a HUGE prospect. Plus, the new multiplayer structure will mean there will be no more excuses to keep MP out of future GC titles ;)

Perhaps it's just more exciting from a development standpoint   :d

Is this the Fantasy TBS game that has been talked about for a long time?

No. Stardock is developing a fantasy title that's entirely separate from Demigod.

Hmm, I wonder if this "impulse" thing can supplant Steam?

The makers of GCII, Sins and SupCom are gonna create the most awesome RPG/RTS/Action game ever? Can't wait.

I think this is great news. Last year I bought 2 games, Supreme Commander and Galactic Civilizations. Now that they are in the same shop, the future is looking bright for me

I hope more companies realize that this is a much better way to go to create a happy bond with your customer and change their thinking that we're all pirates.

I'm pretty excited about this. Sounds great, guys.

Where I've stood on GPG is that they have plenty of gusto, but have never seemed to have quite enough focus to achieve all that they can...Now, partnered with SD, I think they might get that focus. I was excited for Demigod before, but now I'm very excited.

*thumbs up*

All this Demigod stuff does not sounds too attractive to me but I guess it will find it's auditory.

I NEVER saw this coming! Since Gas Powered Games is a AAA developer I never thought they would team up with little Stardock.

Well, I'm impressed. Really impressed! With Stardock publishing something mainsteam with good potential as Demigod you will now probably get as much mediaexposure as EA gets.

Feels like Stardock is aiming for the top and so far it goes up.

But, the important question is....when can we pre-order, and when can we get our hands on the Beta?

Good news to me, Demigod looks interesting.

Do you think you Stardock guys could have a word with GPG about system requirements? Supreme Commander needs a quad-core to run a whole game smoothly with 8 players, and that isn't really an acceptable requirement for 2008, it certainly wasn't for 2007, and it'll still be cutting the game off from a fair chunk of the market in 2009.

They've been working on the engine a lot since then and have told us that it runs a lot better now.

I'm personally way excited about this. The Galciv games and Chris Taylor's games (Total Annihilation, SupCom, etc...) are my absolute favorite games. Imagine Supreme Commander having been published by Stardoc, rather than THQ: Supcom was released too soon, it was buggy and half-baked, and the post release support was lackluster; but under Stardoc, it could have been a really great game.
Congrats, Stardoc/GPG team!
When is Total Annihilation 2 coming out?

Well, the preoder phase has already started: http://www.demigodthegame.com/preorder/

Does that mean that it's only available with real money, and not tokens through totalgaming.net?

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I have just gotten my greasy mits on the Impulse beta, and shall be pre-ordering Demigods as soon as I decide whether I want the retail box version or not. :)

Well, don't play 8-player games then....A E8400 is dirtcheap and overclocks superbly. 4GBs of DDR2 PC8500 is also really cheap.
And it's good that some gamedevs push the limits.

And keep the token system I'm gonna buy 10 of'em in the near future.
