Actually the commissioner is generally responsible for the generation of random numbers in the league, I see no compelling reason why this should be different.

But I do think that perhaps it would be a bit unfair for me to be able to select Wyndstar, Iztok or Motti as my first pick. Whether or not the picks get decided randomly or there is some element of captain ranking to determine the initial order, I would feel uncomfortable about being able to pick an obvious superstar as my first draft choice.

I assume that we will be going with a order reversal for the 2nd round and I also assume that once the draft order is defined that captains would be free to trade pick orders. With these assumptions if I end up with one of the top three 1st round picks I'd be willing to trade picks with any other captain that gets the 4th or 5th 1st round picks (and then 2nd or 1st 2nd round picks). That is both of my picks for both of theirs, clearly I wouldn't be willing to give up such a huge advantage of trading only the 1st round picks.


I think any captain could do this at any point they wish. No one is forced to be captain and serves at both their own choice and the choice of their team. I assume any captain can decline the captaincy at a moment notice. I also assume that a captian could be removed if a majority of the team preferred someone else.

I totally agree. Two draft picks are plenty to form the core of a team (including the captain).

Not quite what I was going for. If you make me take Wyndstar it would be very difficult to decide to give him away even for Iztok (no offense Iztok ).

However if I got 1st and 10th picks (or 12th as the case may be) that would allow me to trade the 1st pick which in most likelihood is Wyndstar and the 10th pick for the 5th and 6th pick where I won't get a superstar but will get two legitimate stars.

Of course you could say after the fact I could trade Wyndstar and an ordinary player for two stars. While that's possible and could come close to accomplishing the same thing there is a major difference. When you trade picks you're trading a thing and there's no reason for someones feelings to be hurt, however, when you trade people there is always some kind of value judgement made and people's feelings *can* be hurt. I think we should prohibit trading players as a general rule because of this possibility.

I still would be willing to trade 1st and 10th picks for 4th and 7th for example, but if folks don't want to allow this then (sarcasm alert) I guess I'll have to suffer with having Wyndstar on my team if I do get the overall first choice.

I assumed the draft would be after the current round ended, but this is not the case? 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place are quite close, and will likely change with the results of Round 8. If we dont wait, we might as well go with the random draft order idea.

Ah. So the point may be moot assuming the A Team can beat out The Eternal Villainy and Celestial Crusaders in this 8th round and pull out a season victory. Seems like a good goal to strive for.

I do have to say that the closeness of teams A, C and E are indicitive of the closeness of the league which is itself evidence of an overall improvement in play throughout the league.

I want to compliment Silver on how clean and clear the OP of this round thread is. I think this is an improvement over the previous format.

The big fonts in different colors are a nice touch and besides being clear it also really has everything needed without extra stuff that isn't needed.

One point that I do want to make about it is that the screenshots do provide all information about the rounds settings without having to replicate all the setting in words. The only thing that isn't specified by the screenshots are the number of opponents.

Even things that are by rule not optional like "All victory conditions enabled" and "Allow Surrenders Enabled in DA" are redundent since they are directly shown in the screenshots.

In the past in my teams private forums we've replicated the games settings in the OP of our Round discussion thread. I assume that other teams often do something similar. While this can be a convenience, it can also be a potential source of error. I've decided that at least in the Team A forum that it's best not to do this.

Basically it's a no win scenario. If everything is correct then everyone gets it right just like if they got all their information directly from the round OP. But with one little mistake a whole team might play the wrong settings.

In general I feel the potential risk outweighs the possible benefit and it's far safer if everyone just gets used to getting all their game settings from the OP of the round thread instead of through a middleman from another post in your private forum.

DethAdder had been wanting to step down for a bit and it seemed natural for me to take over. We had no formal vote but it seemed to be fine with everyone by general consensus. However whether they thought it was a good idea or simply didn't care too much one way or the other I'm not totally sure.

I presume promotion from within should probably be the rule unless no one currently on the team wants the job. In general day to day team discussions it doesn't seem to matter all that much who's the "captain" nor does it really amount to a significant time sink. I do suppose there needs to be a certain availability to be able to help new players get started.

In an All Victory round like this one there probably could be a bit more for the captain to do if the team gets into assigning the victory conditions. I personally like to let folks do what they prefer and then only if there's some issue near the end of the round worry about poking folks to submit or whatever.

Really the biggest necessity for a captain is for the upcomming draft, otherwise I'd say that really the teams don't need one.

Wow, well I'm honored to be considered a possibility for the first draft pick... but you should think about the larger picture.

I've only been on team B for two rounds and in that time we have gone from second to last right down to actually last place. I may not be as much of an advantage as you think.

Team B seems to be largely absent from our private forum, which doesn't help much. I don't really want to be the new captain, because I like the flexibility to be able to play a game on one day, and then just check back a month later. My life gets very, very busy sometimes, managing a MVL team is just not a task I want to add right now.

If someone else wants to step up that is fine, I'll support whoever, but you might want to think about disbanding the team or appointing a new captain after the round.


IF the teams get really mixed up, I don't see how the draft order should be based on the current point totals of the teams. An utterly random mix-up seems to work better, unless the belief is that the captains alone are really so utterly different in quality that you want to handicap the better ones.

For instance, taking as assumptions what has been said just on this page, some people think it is likely that I would be the first pick, and also that team B (which I am on) would pick first. So I would go from dragging down team b.... to dragging down team b! That doesn't seem like much of a change.


Perhaps it would be better if I was an anvil around Mumble's neck for a while...

How awesome is that the teams are so close. We have a really good balance and i hope the draft only helps to keep it that way.

Every player in the MVL should give themselves a round of applause, as we have come a long way since July last year and we are still going strong.

Wouldn't that require an even number of teams? Otherwise wouldn't one team need to sit out each round?
