Dark Avatar Campaign mission 3 problem

I'm having trouble with the third (i think) campaign mission. This is the one with a renegade faction of humans. The blurb at the start says something about creating an alliance between all major races?

Do i really need to do this? I could easily crush them but I can't seem to make the like me. All races will rarely even talk to me and never want to make peace.

Am I missing something here?

Think like a Drengin. Dringin and Korath are major races. Everyone else is a slave waiting to be put to work. So, yes, you're supposed to go forth and crush the Terrans, Korx, and Altarians.

Actual alliances don't matter until mission 8.
