Custom Race Ships Question

Hello,

I'm relatively new to the game and the site. I have created some custom ships and want to try a custom race. I have read the modding guide  By Cari Begle, aka CariElf which is great. I have also looked at the sticky with the mod guides.

My question is this. How can I get my custom race to only use the ships I design for it. Do I have to replace one of the major races? Also when configuring your races traits in the game, the "personality" button and "create ship style" button don't work for any race. Is this just part of the game that was never developed?

I've been up all night and am a little tired. Maybe it's right in front of me, so I appologize if I'm asking something stupid. Just the same, thanks for reading this!

If you're going to use the race yourself, there's no real need to go through the trouble--since you're not an AI, you can use any ship design you want at any time (The AIs have to use the template system because they obviously have no aesthetic sense). If you really must replace the designs of the three ships you start with though, see this thread.

I read the link, thanks. There is a problem however. It says

2. In AI race customization screen at game creation, pick the style you used when you made your templates, edit it, and save it under a new name.

The "create ship style button" is greyed out and I can't seem to edit any of the ships in the race customization screen. I can change the colours, pick major ship styles but that's it. I have the gold edition and play DA.
