Finally !

If you did it with Sins release this would prevent about 40% of so called "piracy".

Is this going to be on SDC?

Game spot requires me to sign up to get the file.

I don't want to sign up.

Is there any other place I can download the demo...Stardock Central maybe?

I was excited until 2 things showed up.
Having to register with Game Spot and a limit of 90 minutes.

Don't care about the limit, but definitely not going to sign up at Game Spot. The talk around here had me prepared to test my distaste for RTS, but not if I have to bother registering at a site I almost never visit.

Here's another place to download the demo.

That is a major Marketing Gaff - someone is not thinking .... people are sick of signing on everything and anything just because they showed an interest and raised their head above the parapit. That tactic throws back to early marketing days on the Internet when - as such - it was new, different etc. People didnt mind, it was all new, few sign on's etc. Now they use it so much its a Royal Pain. Test and Measure those who did sign on to get it over the following month - I'll bet you got nothing out of it.

There are other ways to get contact details to build a prospect database - this is not it. You should only ask, or force details from a prospect in return for a Product or Service the individual wants or needs. A Demo is neither a Product nor a Service. The people after it are showing an interest in the Product, thats fine for now - dont push it - and if they like the Product they will be back. Push it and they will avoid you.

Local Cafe: "Good morning sir, welcome to our great Cafe, before you sit down we would ask you fill in your name, address and email details"

I dont think so, I'm out the door.

Why is it different on the Web - it isnt of course, whats different is lack of understanding what the customer wants. Its a common issue across the Web.

Its the classic lesson in the ABC of Marketing - do not be motivated to find your customers, be motivated to understand them - then you will get results.

If you are still sceptical / stuck in the old ways - release the need to sign on for a test period - I'll bet my pension your downloads go through the roof. Thats worth far more in generating interest and developing follow on revenue, than forcing a new prospect to do the one thing most hate about the Internet - signing on as soon as they say 'hello'.

So then, why not on SDC?

It is featured there, but not downloadable from there.
Does Stardock care to reply as to why?

Also, I find Gamestop kinda distasteful at the moment anyways over their payola scandal.

Come on guys, the demo will be all over the net in less then a day if you don't want to register at Gamespot. Give it a break. ;)

As if I don't have enough profiles to keep track of - sign up for GameSpot? Umm, no.

To be honest, I didn't think it was that good, GalCiv2 is by far the better game, it's only downfall it not having multiplayer.

If i'd been able to play the demo first, I wouldn't have bought Sins. :(

Obviously, this is just my opinion and will no doubt vary from everyone else.

To avoid double posting, don't hit the 'Post Reply' button more than once.
Sometimes it takes some time for the post to be posted.
Don't be so impatient.

That was weird.

I pressed 'Post Reply' only once, yet get a double post with the first being incomplete.

This website is messed up.
Add to that, now whenever I click the 'Everything' link in 'Forum Links' I don't receive anything but catagories.

I really wonder if the web devs test the web site enough.
Because there are things that should not be, for far too long.

And I still dislike not going to my last posted comment in a thread I have recently visisted.

I read that it was changed because of new posters getting confused.
But, if a poster is new - the cookie would not send them to a later point in the thread.

The web devs really need to rethink some things.

And so far, this 'new format' sucks.

Well, I've played around with the demo and my early reaction is to pass on buying it....maybe over time I'll get hooked on it..... but not so much right now.

Ditto. I think a lot of 4X gamers that bought the game feel that way, honestly.

Ugh. They attached their own stuff to it and shoved it into a zip file. Who knows if they did further modifications?

Which reminds me - can somebody get a MD5 signature for the original file, so we can make sure copies are not modified?

I'd be more interested in firm word from Stardock about whether the demo will ever be on SDC.

I say the same about GalCiv 2. If I had only tried it a bit I wouldn't have bought it.
note: I'm not gonna get Sins either since it's to little micromanagement in it.
