Beta 5 - Experience anomaly still not working

The 'Captain's Log' anomaly still does absolutely nothing.  I found about 8-10 of them, built out a nice medium warship and upgraded my Flagship.  Total experience = 0.  This anomaly has never worked, in any game.  Why can't the experience just be given immediately, not supposedly awarded on an upgrade?

Because I don't' believe weaponless ships are allowed XP.

Then the anomaly should be changed or something, if weaponless ships aren't allowed XP. I've personally witnessed this bug as not affecting experience.

And why would you not allow them XP anyway? The only way any unarmed ship could get XP is a survey ship through anomalies. What difference does it make what level they are? A level 20 transport dies automatically, just like level 1.

The only way to gain experience is through combat. When you upgraded to a warship, it (presumably) hadn't yet gotten into a fight, and so therefore has 0 XP. The anomaly increases the amount of experience gained, so in theory your ship should level up faster, if it survives.

I haven't noticed much difference in my games after finding one of those, so the effect must be fairly small. But then again, I usually play in rare galaxies, and don't find many of that particular anomaly. I'm not even sure whether or not the effects stack. So many things in this game do, that I am inclined to believe so. I am curious to know how your ship does in this regard. Have you noticed any difference at all in the rate at which it levels up?

As to your original question:
Why can't the experience just be given immediately, not supposedly awarded on an upgrade?

You can't just be given experience. In the game, as in real life, you have to earn it.

It IS given immediately. It just doesn't DO anything until you upgrade it.

Don't look at the experience bar. Check ship details.

I'm seeing it give +3 experience per Captain's logs anomaly, both in DA and in TA. Although I haven't updated my TA recently (though I will do so shortly), I find it difficult to believe something so simple could become broken, for any reason, and it does work in the version that I have.

This experience is given regardless of whether or not the ship has weapons; however, the experience bar does not show until the ship is upgraded into one that does.

If you've picked them up with your flagship and then upgraded it into something rather beastly, the bar may just be so small (in proportion to what is needed to level up) as for you not to notice.

Admittedly, +3 experience is pathetic, but it -does- work.
