Culture Bug

Does anyone know if there are any plans to fix that (annoying) bug where culture will reset upon loading a save game?

It recovers, you know, as soon as a turn or 2 is processed. Its only a map display quirk; the numbers are still there in the game engine.

As far as I've heard these is no plans to fix the "bug" that they implemented to allow the game to load faster.

As for a map display bug, not so. Check the IP ratio on border planets, notably ones out of the culture's influence area before and after the influence update 2 rounds in. There are times you can get unlucky enough to load the game and loose a planet to influence that was in the clear when you last played the game.

Its a really nasty bug when it sticks around for turn after turn after turn (because nothing happens to change the culture lines -- they're in a static equilibrium). Especially when combined with the "neutral territory" UP law that used to shield me from the bad guys declaring war... and is now protecting half of "my" empire from me.

Sometimes it's handy then to keep a constructor around and built it to make it re-calc the influence auras.

Yeah, well, we shouldn't have to work around this problem. Maybe it was done deliberately to reduce loading times... but I'd say the decision needs to be revisited. (I'd love to say "make it an option" but I'm sure we all know why that isn't an option...)

Ive been crusading to get this one fixed for a long time. I,ve sent bug reports, screen shots, and the kitchen sink as well as starting and commenting on numerous threads to bring attention to the problem.

Someday it might be fixed, then again it might not.

While generally I agree that 'we shouldn't have to work around' a bug like this, at the same time, if you are in danger of losing your game because of it, or being massively inhibited, you need to work around it.

If you can't drop a constructor to make a quick influence starbase, and then destroy it, buy an embassy/cultural center/some other racial influence building someplace. They are usually relatively cheap. Unless you are in the middle of an economic crisis, it shouldn't kill you.

Sadly, I haven't seen a planetary improvement do a quick influence re-calc. Placing a star base...any type...anywhere will make it re-calc right away.

I started a thread called "Legacy Bugs" about longstanding issues that have never been addressed and mentioned this bug in particular, but no one brought up any other issues and there was no developer comment on it.
