A belated suggestion/ complaint - Technology descriptions

Hi all,

I bought the combined DA/GalCiv when it came out, and I have to say that my biggest problem with the game isn't related to any mechanical issue, or any contention with the economic model.  I find it a very enjoyable game, with a wonderful array of options.  As the post title suggests, the biggest problem for me is the writing.  I don't want to offend anyone, but the grammar and style of many of the tech descriptions (and, to a lesser extent, the AI dialogue) is somewhat awkward.  Sometimes incorrect, but often just awkward...  it's a hard thing to pin down, and writing style is a fairly subjective area.  I'm unfortunately away from my gaming computer at the moment, so I can't quote an example, but I thought I'd throw this out there.  It's too late to edit this for TA, I'm sure, but perhaps comments like this will influence Stardock's future efforts.  Again, no offense meant, it's just something that has always bugged me, and messed with immersion.

I completely agree with you. Both GC2 and DA are excellent games in terms of gameplay and mechanics but in my opinion developers just underestimate the immersivity factor of a game.
As you say the writing in this game is honestly poor with tech descriptions which sometimes have just stupid sentences.
The fact that they just don't give importance to immersivity is also proved by the fact that there are lot of minor races which share the same portrait when it would have been a lot better if they would have created as much minor races as the number of portraits, if there are only 6 portraits it's better to have 6 minor races instead of getting 15 of them and having in every game 3 of them sharing the same.
There is also no effort given to create some sort of background to races and minor races.....one of the minor race description is "they just enjoy to smoke their pipe and they enjoy their hippie life"......it would be a lot better if they can create an historical background for every race a bit more interesting than those sentences.

Another good example. These may seem like small details, but things like these really take away. I don't need to continue ranting, I just hope that issues like writing and backgrounding will be taken into account in future. Some of the ideas in TA are decidedly flavourful, like unique tech paths for each race, so maybe SD has already had these ideas. I hope so.
