Clean Things Up

I would pay money to get back to a stable game that actually runs correctly. I feel like the original investment in this game has now been a throwaway, and the current situation makes it unplayable for me.

Uh, care to be more specific as to just what problem you're having?

....and which expansion you are running.

...and why you failed to properly assess the tenacity of the user base?

There seems to be whole host of bugs now. I did not play the game for about 6 months, and on return I find lots of problems. Fleets won't move correctly and game-play is generally sluggish. Saves and restores are a hit and miss proposition.

I am running the latest version of Dark Avatar (1.80g.100), a brand new clean copy on a new computer that never had it installed before. This computer is is not the latest and greatest, but it is bigger, faster, and more up to date than the previous computer that ran the older versions quite well.

I am not aware that this is a beta, maybe I am confused about something. I think Twilight of Arnor is a beta, is that what you are referring to? I don't generally get involved in betas because they tend to not work very well (a lot like the production game I paid top dollar for is running now).

I can't see much point in asking for additional features in a piece of buggy and erratic software. I would however pay for the repair and tuning up of the existing game to a reliable status. If the developer team can manage that then I might be convinced to invest in more of their work rather than spending my money on other products. Galactic Civilizations has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

I think Kryo will be able to do tons more with that information than he could with the OP.

As for DisneyDestroyer's post, I'd assume he thought that you were playing TA and were complaining about it not being on par with a live release.

Other than those words, I'm a waste of time in this post since I haven't touched DA since the first beta of TA. I'll bow out now.

Even more could be done if the OP posted the debug.err info.

"fleets won't move correctly"

Do you mean that they move to the wrong place,

or

Do you mean that if you order them outside the range that they can cover in one turn (+1), they forget that you wanted to move them and instead stay still?

If it is the first, please elaborate on what exactly they are doing wrong.

If it is the second, check this out: User with the same problem as you.

To make it even more convenient, I'll even paste the solution (honestly stolen from Pure Soul):
You have 1.80e, not 1.80g.

Download this and then run SDC to update DA. You can open it via Notepad or send it through your favorite virus scanner if you're concerned about the contents; it's clean. It changes your DA version number to 1.7 so SDC will properly update DA.

Don't forget to have SDC as well as DA closed when you do this.

You may need to change your server to US-1, via Tools-->Settings:Internet in SDC. Refreshing XML Data in the same screen may also be necessary

I think having version e even explains some of the trouble you are having with saving, but not sure if that's true.
Hope it's been of some help.

Thanks Highwater.

It remains to be scene if the various other annoying problems have been solved or not, but this was biggie.
