How To Get The AI To Design Ships For You In New TotA Beta?

I've downloaded the new TotA Beta today and I'm struggling with the new AI designs ships for you.

How does it work? It mentions about a Focus button but it's always greyed out so is unselectable.

Can someone help me to get this new feature to work please?

Have you chosed auto design in game options?

Focus is working for me but I haven't really got the hang of auto design yet. I think you have to delete all your old custom designs for it to work but I may be missing something about the process. It just keeps offering me my old designs.

Your ship every 48 turns (1 year) should come up with a new design provided you researched some techs for your ship (Lasers,Missiles,Mass Drivers, Miniaturization etc..) and then it will be the ship name.... like

Defender M1 < Notice # = Design # 1=1st, 2=2nd and so on.

If you select that ship in the shipyard and then click "Focus" you can move the sliders to focus on the weapon types/defense types and so on and the ship will appropriately have that % of equipment.

I have had no trouble haven't had to delete my old custom designs either. Should work, but it's probably safe to say if you'r in a save-game made before the update and are trying to play it the new features might not be available. Try a new game perhaps.

Why would you want the AI to design your ships?

You could just randomly add tons of weapons, forget to put engines on, and waste some space on 2 or 3 life support units.

(oh, and if you're feeling clever, add a token peice of defense on)

(oh, and if you're really clever add expensive weapons onto your constructors and transports...)

I would have mucked with that extensively when I was new to the game, just to get more ideas than the core designs offer.

But unless this new "AI" is able to learn from my manual designs and suggest upgrades before I think to try designing them, I'm not likely to enable it. I like to keep a tidy ship type list.

Hi, thanks for that.

I just found out that the AI build ships automatically for you was in the option in the main menu.

LOL I just found it in the menu in the game as well.

To be honest I never look at the menus and just get into the game.

Why would I want to see what ships the AI can build for me? Because it's a new feature so it's worth checking out regardless whether it will be used again or not. As this is a Beta we have to check everything out incase of bugs. So try it out and see if it works okay or not. If not, report it and Stardock will fix it. That's the point of these Beta releases so we can iron out the bugs.
