Good thing there are 29 days in February or we wouldn't have gotten this out "this month".

Beta 5 of Twilight of the Arnor arrives and it has some pretty huge new features.

Here are a few of the major highlights:

  • Ascension Victory Condition is now in! Maps with this condition enabled get 5 ascension crystals. Build a starbase on them and collect 1 ascenion point per turn for each one. Collect 1000 and win. Of course, the alien civilizations won't be too keen on this.

  • AI designed ships.  Players can now opt to have the computer AI design combat ships for them.

  • Auto-Launching of ships. Players can specific various parameters to have ships auto launch when they're built.

  • Custom Races are back in! Now you can design your own race and choose which technology tree for them to use.

  • Updated graphics. Make sure you ooh and ahh at the updated human ship textures and such. And feel good knowing they use a fraction of the memory that they did back when they were ugly.

  • Updated Economy. Mo money.

  • New weapon effects!

  • First build with any real AI updates.  The beta 5 series begins the official updating of the computer AI players.

I'm not sure if this is the place to put it but I can create a custom race but I don't have the option to choice tech's for the race's

you have to pick one of the races tech tree!!!

But I think if you custom a complete tech tree and put it in the Data file it should show up I think ?? If not we `ll have to custom one of the races tech tree so we can use it !!

No No, what I mean is when I'm creating a custom race it wont let me click on the tech tab, so I can't even assign a races tech tree

Download SDC (Stardock Central) @ https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp

Once you've got the program setup/installed and have entered in all your Cd/reg keys...

Tools>Internet>Server(US2)

Make sure to have "Show Pre-release versions" checked in.

That's where the Beta 5 should be. 0.97[b].001 is it if I'm not mistaken.

So this ascension victory replaces the tech victory? I must say I have my doubts. I liked tech victory because it made turtleing a valid way of winning the game. If you have to occupy all these crystals, doesn't that essentially make it victory by maintaining naval supremacy over the most part of the galaxy? Ie, not much different from a military or influence victory.

It doesn't replace tech victory-that's still there. You're pretty much correct on the rest of it, though.

Download SDC (Stardock Central) @ https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp < Step One

Once you've got the program setup/installed and have entered in all your Cd/reg keys...

Tools>Internet>Server(US2) < Step Two (Make sure us server 2 is selected/click okay after)

Make sure to have "Show Pre-release versions" checked in. < Big check mark in a white-box

That's where the Beta 5 should be. 0.97[b].001 is it if I'm not mistaken. < The version I believe is called/refered to as "Beta 5" so other posters might correct my entire post/information in case of error.

If this is not simple enough for you I have no other way to simplify it further for you, perhaps someone else might be kind enough to help out with that.

Beta looks great. Only problem I am having is when I create fleets. Screen goes black for a second. Sometimes it returns to the game, sometimes it crashes to desktop. Not sure if it did that before as I never created fleets in Arnor before. Too busy with other stuff .. like COD4  :LOL:  :LOL:

The new starbase looks sweet, it's too bad the others don't look like that. Nice to see the custom races again, although I think you should be able to get better stats for them than the normal bonus stats (e.g. a +50 morale could be given to your custom race at a high price, rather than the normal +30 maximum). I get that the custom races are not supposed to be as powerful in some ways, but seeing as how the main races have been greatly enhanced, I think the custom race should be as well.
