Being new to the group, I hesitate to make suggestions about the game, I prefer to go along with whatever the old hands want to do, but I feel strongly enough about the scoring of the ties in Round 6 to speak up. I coach softball and have directed tournaments for many years and have the scars to show from having had to deal with tie scores.
IMHO: Basically, a team or player earns one-half point for a tie. Suppose you agree that lowest average submission rank gets one bonus point. Two teams tie for earliest submission rank. Each team should get one-half point. If you award each team one point, then you are giving a bonus point for each of the two top teams, which was not agreed to.
However, if you are giving a one-point bonus for the top four scores, as you do in MVL for high score and speed, then if the tie is for any place except fourth place, each player gets one point and that uses up two of the places. If there is a tie for fourth place, then each player gets one-half point. For example, suppose the top score is 30,000, then two players tie with 28,000, and the next players score 27,000 and 26,000. The awards are one point for 30,000 (first place) then one point each for the two 28,000's (tie for second and third place) and one point for 27,000 (fourth place). The 26,000 does not get a point because that was fifth place and only the top four earn points. Second example, if the top three scores are 30,000, 29,000 and 28,000 and two players are tied with 27,000, then the top three all get one point, using up first, second and third places, and the two 27,000's each get one-half point for a tie for fourth place.
If my suggestion is not adopted by the group, I might jump off of the end of the pleasure pier at Santa Cruz harbor. Then again, I might not.
