Good Starter Tactics

Hey I am a beginner at the game with some idea of what is going on. However I can't seem to get my civilization off the ground past 'beginner' unless I got with accelerated start.

I was wondering exactly what more experienced player do in terms of initial buildings, colonizing and whether or not spending your initial bc on buying things like colonizers and constuctors and what have you straight off the bat instead of waiting for them to finish building. Furthermore what things should I think about when researching.

Also do you wait for your planetery improvements to finish or do you purchase them straight up as well?
At the moment I am still sussing out the Terran Alliance so if you have to speak from a race perspective think of them.

I know there are a lot of 'beginner' strat guides out there but I was wondering if someone could fill me in on the more techinical numbers aspect.

So say I trade Ultra Spices to the Torian for 500 bc. Do they receive the empire-wide bonus to morale in perpetuiy or for a limited time? If it's limited, how long do they get it? If it's in perpetuity do I get 500 bc a turn or just the initial 500 from the trade? I'm assuming also that I still retain the bonus myself after the trade since I still have the item - is that true?

A Trade Good is there to "Trade" - you own it, rather like a copyright on software. Someone wants to use your software, they pay, someone wants to use your Trade Good they pay for it. Like the software, you still own the Trade Good.

So hang on... if I have a trade good it keeps making me money?

Do they relate to freighters at all? As in increase income from routes?

From what I understand, you retain the bonus, they get it forever, and they only will have to pay one time.

Thank you Zydor and RapMastaZ. I'm glad people out there are willing tio share their knowledge. I didn't find anything useful in the manual about Trade Goods, but admittedly I didn't scour every last paragraph in it.

Moving the launch point on a planet was mentioned earlier in this thread. Will you explain how to do this?

Think of a trade good as a technology that you get to patent - like a tech, if you sell it they keep it forever, but also like techs you still have it. Unlike techs, civs that have bought your trade goods can't resell them.

Glad it helped!

Well if you click on a planet you will see a little box in the top of the box that shows the planet's shipyard(where you can see all the ships orbiting a planet), if you mouse over it it says "change launch location" or something like that, just click on this and you can choose which direction to launch ships.

They keep the trade good forever...even if you go to war with them?

Yes. All sales are final.
