First off, I couldn't have done this without the inspiration of the Metaverse League and Wyndstar in particular. Kudos to the master!

Now to the matter at hand.

I finally did it. A year zero win! Granted, it was only against 1 AI and on challenging (my current level) but I'm certain that 'tough' wouldn't have been much harder. On the other hand, it was my first attempt at an 'all-labs' and 'lease instead of buy' approach, so I consider myself proud that I could do it at all.

For all of you, who like me thought that year zero wins are nigh impossible: Try it! Read the posts about it! It is difficult, requires constant micromanagement, but I found it incredibly rewarding to see that victory screen after 25 - 30 turns. Not the way I'd like to play constantly, but as a change of pace, it's a incredible challenge.

And of course, once you've accomplished your first 'Year Zero', post here and rejoice!

Attention new players!
Do not be frightened by these scores! Playing a ZYW is actually really easy, and getting a score close to 30000 points takes just a few tries. These games are usually finished in less than 20 minutes, so have at it. Try the tiny ZYWs first, I find them easier and you might get the unique chance to beat players like neilo or Wyndstar.

Sure. :grin: I'm playing through The Witcher for a second time right now.  It's a really awesome game with lots of variability in ethical choices that affects the course of the game (good for replayability).  A ZYW only takes 10 minutes, so I havent been spending too much GC2 time lately.

hehehe. i'm kinda burned out on games at the moment. i'm sure i'll be back to it in no time. once i'm working again i plan to pick up some new games. right now the top of my list is occupied by The Witcher, NWN 2, Sins and Civ 4. still looking for a good space battle sim, too.

Yeehaw.  Got me my first ZYW.  Standard Korath (no custom race), tiny map, one opponent (the Korx).  22,400, November (I think).  The game could have been done sooner but the Korx expanded like crazy and I had to spore 8 planets.  I chose 5 minors and rare habitable but it didn't seem to help.  ToA, 2.02.  Initial planet had 100% research tile but nothing else.  No precursor library on any planet.

 

After all is said and done it's hard, but not impossible I guess, to consider this "really" playing the game.  My marathon  victories on obscene, without all research/factories, are more like it.  Still, this is good for padding the Gerontocracy score, and it is kind of fun, so I'll try to hone it a bit.    :digichet:

 

P.S.: if my avatar is not sufficiently rated PG I'll change it.  It's a 1950's pinup girl, on the phone, although it looks a bit like a laser bazooka about to be fired.

Yeah - I just barely got the spot. I think it was 350 pts, but I could be mistaken.

Either way, I'll have to do better in the long run to keep hold of at least one spot in the Top 3.

Though I'm pretty sure KP's 116.9K will be pretty hard to beat.

KP, try saving your pic as a PNG instead of jpeg. Its so much more clearer and easier to read scores. Look at the difference between mine in reply 768 and ^.

why are most of the games posted on 1.80g and not the current version?

and can someone please tell me what setting you are useing.....

The reason most use 1.8G as it has been the most stable and best version of DA to date. I myslef would still be using it if my archive had not failed.

You can still get the top scores with the latest build, as you can see my latest game was with 2.01.

The settings are as follows,

Gigantic map

Rare everything, except anomalies.

Fastest tech speed.

8 minors. (though i am yet to see a difference in score here since you rarely will meet any minors in this game.)

Suicidal.

DA is the best version to use, though 100K+ is possible with TA.
