Psionic Beam

In a game I have going, I've got the Xeno Ethics and opted for evil character...which I was told were the requisites for Psionic Beam...but I don't see Psionic Beam showing up in Shipyard, or Planetary Improvements, or on the Tech Tree...can someone give me more detailed info as to what it takes to acquire this weapon?  Do you have to have lower level beam missile techs up through a certain beam weapon to go with the Xeno Ethics and Evil character?  Thanks for replies.

Yes.

Phasors I unlocks it (in DL & DA, at least).

Thank you very much, now I can get on with this game that I set up as a trial of using this weapon.

End of quote

You'll find it to be effective but also very expensive. I've heard in TA that it becomes far less effective because its much further up the tech tree.

I can't recall for DA, buy in TA you should be able to see it on the tech tree (further up the tree, you don't automatically have it researched).

in TA (at least in the Drath-derived tech trees) you need the first of three disruptors, which is the last tech before the doom ray. in DA/DL it was after the first phasors which is way earlier. since the weapon has not changed, itself, it is now only a slight improvement and almost not worth it with doom ray so close at that point.

The Drengin In TA get Psionic Beam after Laser V. It seems it is different for most races.

Interesting...I'm still playing DA and want to give Psionic Beam a try...thank you.

giving the Drengin/Korth PB earlier would probably be a good thing - in a sense the advantages of a particular ethical alignment can be different for the different races, to encourage their 'natural' leaning?

I can see how the encouragement towards a natural alignment would work, as well as help, both from a flavor point of view and from a game point of view.

I'm also hoping that this means the Drengin will finally start building Dominator Corvettes with their current technology (IIRC they never have, maybe it's been fixed and I haven't noticed yet). But somehow I doubt that.

However.

Do we REALLY need to make the Drengin/Korath militarily STRONGER? I mean, come ON.

Although, admittedly, the difference between Laser V and Phasors I is minimal from a tech research standpoint.

The Dregin Beamtech line is not fully completed. They have Laser 1-5, Ion Beam 1-3, Disrupter 1-3 and then Doom Ray. But right now, Disrupter I comes directly after Ion Beam I. And no actual weapon components are added for the Ion Beams.

But still, I think it is a good idea to give the Drengin the Psionic Beam earlier. After all having powerfull weapons is their advantage.
