GC 1.01a... what's new?

Okay, I give up... what's new about 1.01a? Since it's such a minor revision, is it something like "fixed two spelling errors," or something like that? ;)

My question is: How can a retail buyer get this new update? Do I have to download the bonus pack again to get it? Or is this an independant update?

Retail folks who do not use Stardock (I can't because I don't have Net at home, only work) have to wait for normal patch schedule. "Similar to normal games" or something like that, Brad said.

Brad listed the fixes on a thread around here somewhere. The most interesting one (to me) is a change to how the AI handles tech trades...

Hey Yin! We know each other from SMAC days. ;)

Brad released a 'beta' earlier. Seems the forum is not sure if the new official update is the same as that one. I'm running the dll from that release, as Brad said it should help in registering your games to Metaverse.

So, GDC users are betaing the updates? Or merely get the fun of each incremental update? I am very hesitant to risk a mature system to something that has 'Deletes all files and directories' as a bug in its history. Old bugs tend to reoccur...

Well, hey, fellow SMACer! :)

I, too, am happy to wait for the 'stable' releases of these updates. And I'm also glad that there are folks helping to test the incremental ones, since things like tech-trading balances take some time in the wild before they are tamed.

By the way...

Version 1.01a 30

Its 1mb on Stardock, fixes include:-

March 30, 2003: Tweaks, fixes, and events...
Changes:
+ Some random events come later in the game.
+ Technology Trade United Planets issue nerfed
+ AI considers technology trade values more at lower intelligence levels
+ Crash bug in diplomacy screen hopefully fixed
+ Terraformer can be built
+ SDNet.lib updated for those who have had trouble submitting scores. Make sure you register with the metaverse.
+ Duplicate building of wonders / trade goods fixed
+ Added 2 new random events
+ Anti-Cheat methods beefed up
+ Metaverse submits difficulty level

There will be another update later in the week so unless any of these things look compellign to you, don't feel obligated to get it.

Though based on the posts, some of the changes to random events and the trade all tech UP issue will probably be good news to some.

Necro: I had an issue on my work PC, but that I managed to resolve by downloading and installing the SDC from the download page at the website. After that it autoupdated itself to the right version, and the GalCiv update was visible.

Does anyone know where you can see what version you have installed?

For the life of me I can't find it, and it's driving me crazy.

From inside Gal Civ, the during a game, hit escape key (or pull down the options menu). Look at the top where the menu button was. It will list the version number there.

Thanks, yes I've seen that, but it only says "1.01a", not "1.01a.30" or something like that. Is this the only place the version is listed?

Currently you can, from inside of the game, only see the "main patch level" (dunno what to call it) in the options menu. Mine says 1.01

On SDC you can see which minor patch level you are at.
Mine says 1.01a.030

Fredrik,

Where in SDC are you seeing this? Mine only says 1.01a on the Downloads page.

Where, where do you find it? That's what I'm talking about. I don't see it. Can you give me a detailed description of where you see "1.01a.030"?

Please?

Did I mention this is driving me crazy?
