G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Gosh you lot are evil. You fully intend to cripple the poor Republic with war reparations don't you?

Well ok the in-laws are visiting but I can mmorgpg can't I?

Pontius, we all know that Ms Pilot has grounded you after a certain ANZAC mission finally succeeded.

But then again, beer tribute may be acceptable. After all, the Survey Ship of Doom has a tendency to run through its own reserves in no time at all.

Again, the Ship of Doom has no reserves through a certain successful ANZAC mission. When will you guys admit defeat?

Pontius: I forgot to congratulate you on your recent elevation to the bar of venerable wise men. ;p

Gerrakin, you have a special recruiting assignment. 3 new recruits by the weekend. As always keep up the spying.
End of quote

Spying is never a problem, boss. But recruiting is getting trickier these days. We shall see what can be conjured up by Monday.

Now, onto Palpatine's comments: Three months ago, GROSS did not exist. Two months ago (plus a few days), GROSS was lowly two-person operation. One month ago plus three days, we hit #1 for the first time. We had a Euro and an Apolyton menace to overcome. The Canadians were not a mjor threat until about 3 weeks ago. That is when they started the slow push from #7 up to a temporary #1 on July 1. Then they settled back into second. Before the Canadians took the top, a great push by the MWC made them the ones to worry about for a while.

The whole point being is that GROSS has not been dominant forever, and that we are a survivor's empire. We are on top because we fought to be there. But there will come a day when we will fall, just like the other empires of Galciv legend in the last few months. That is how it should be. Now, just the talk of "reinventing" GROSS would cause enough controversy in our ranks. But the talk of merger and loss of identity is the GROSS version of heresy.

As for the "It's no fun to have one big guy on top of the board all the time" mentality, we are realistically within striking range of a few bigger fish. There are a couple of empires that are small armies compared to us that could take us out. And then there is our archrival the MWC. Comparable in size, well matched to us in capability. And then there is the smaller but very skilled Fellowship. The king of the hill is not going to give the other guys guns and then wait for the firing squad in the name of fun. You want a shot at the title, earn it. :)

I think you have to look at the overall enjoyment factor for those who participate regularly here. In any ladder situation, there can be only one leader, and GROSS certainly deserve the top spot. No one expects GROSS to suddenly commit hari-kiri so the rest of us can feel useful. Some of the ANZACs are, I think, a little frustrated in the locality empire closing us off to potential recruits - and a theme empire might be more fun for those of us with...er...literary intentions as well. I look at the number of games submitted, and ANZAC has submitted 100-150 less than all the major empires except FOTR. This kinda hurts - if we could get a bigger critical mass of committed players, we'd do better. We'd LIKE to be giving GROSS some real competition, even if we lose eventually.

The other enjoyment factor is what happens on the boards - gags, ribbing, serious stuff, off topic stuff - that creates a sense of community. That's what bugs me about the Euros and Canucks - they must have great players, and interesting people, but don't get involved here. I think Yoda has a good point - once the initial wave of purchasing and playing GalCiv wears off - what do the hard core who are left do to stop boredom setting in?
Well there lies the problem. It's finding other people that are going to be committed. I heard someone say (I think Ray) that one of the reasons why G.R.O.S.S. is on top is because we plently of active members. True that is, but also that we do work hard at what we do. In fact I believe that there only really a total of 5-7 really active people in the G.R.O.S.S. empire at most of the times, and then the rest gets in games whenever.

Another thing I have noticed is that G.R.O.S.S. empire just seems to be fun to be in. I'm not saying that everyone else isin't, but to me, G.R.O.S.S. just seems to be a bit more...louder. Though it hasn't got us many people, unliek other empires, but it just goes to prove that those of us in here love what we are in and so we are going to stay committed to what we do. Sometimes the fact is, is that with other people, they just end up joining a empire just because (and I'm sure G.R.O.S.S. has a few of those people).

About bringing G.R.O.S.S. some competition...heh, I'm all for it. Honestly, I've been looking forward to some action latley...figured ANZAC or the Canadians would've guven us a run for our money, lol.

First of all, I'm glad we're not dissolving GROSS. I enjoy being in a #1 empire (and in the six weeks I've been aboard there are at least 3 times we weren't number 1), but I'd rather be working to retake #1 than lose our identity.

I've heard some good ideas about competition. I like the GOTM idea. I'd also be in favor of a loose alliance on the forum. The some of other empires could always form a confederation without us. That would give us a run for the money and they could even end up ahead of us... (FOTR, the JR, and ANZAC would be WAY ahead of us --- at least at first )
Happy Raiding everyone,
Cypher

Arghhh.... time to abandon ship, mateys. The AI finally got me, though I don't have the heart to play this one out. Previously, I had never lost a system, but the Crippling Small game I'm playing finally got me...

It started out okay as I crushed the Yor, Altarians, Torians, and Alexians. Now I have 7 systems, the Drendin have 8, and the Arceans 2. The Drendin have declaired war on me with more Frigates/Battlecrusiers than I have. The kicker is that they also have 3 battleships and I have 56 TURNS away from completing research on Battleships... I have no idea how they got the tech that quickly. My best planet has also declared they like Drendin culture better.

I understand that at higher difficulties you play from behind, but this doesn't seem fun.... I'm really impressed at those of you who regularly crush Crippling and Maso.

I started a Gigantic game, but my laptop doesn't seem to have the processor power for it, so I'm going to try a large non-conquest game. :SURPRISED:

Anyway, I had to leave some of my crew behind, but I made sure to pack the bar and our battle plans into an escape capsule.

Have a great weekend everyone.
Cypher

Arr matey! Took a while to read through the last of the 200 posts in this gigantic thread, but finally did it. Anyway, I thought if I was going to join an empire, it might as well be GROSS (you have the Right Stuff(TM) here!).

I played my first games goody goody, but my last one with Populists/Pure Evil was just too easy! :) Playing good was way harder for me (I play with random alignments, and always seem to get Evil Altarians next to me...) Now, atleast, I can enslave them with impunity :)

Terror Stars... Hmm... It's like Christmas!

Gerakken, I think we need to convert those painting bots into hair clippin' bots. They could guard the the surface of the Doom from future furry incursions. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Stay still, Drop Bear. This won't hurt a bit. LOL ;)

Ahem. Fellow citizens of the Metaverse, pirates though ye may be:

As a citizen in good standing of the Jedi Council, I have naturally been keeping an eye on the open communications of GROSS, as you're not only #1 but apparently at war with us. I have not yet seen any official response on our leader's offer of an armistice, although there has been a bit of conversation here in Threadzilla on the topic.

If the question is still under debate, a few thoughts:

1. Jedi are not fundamentally opposed to piracy. You'll remember that Ben Kenobi did, in fact, hire Han Solo, a man with a past as checkered as many of yours.

2. Jedi are not opposed to alcohol consumption per se. Ol' Kenobi, you'll remember, knew somebody at every bar.

3. The Force is a doctrine that encompasses both good and evil. It's merely a path; it's your decision which way to walk. While it's true that our empire has a lot of blue Chaotic Good smilies, I don't believe that there is a single blue-white, Pure Good, Altairian-hugging happy face among the bunch. At last check, we had a few neutrals and at least one evil member, and it's rare to find a Jedi who hasn't taken a walk on the Dark Side in at least one or two games - yours truly included. (Easier. Quicker. More seductive.)

4. Finally, may I submit GalCiv's description of The Dark Side:

There are those who believe our civilization is brutal and evil. They're dead now. Those that remain may fear us but they also respect us. Now we can provide them the doctrine of the dark side. There is no evil or good. There is only power.

This is as good a motto for GROSS as I have yet come across...

In closing, I suggest that we choose our battles carefully. GROSS is likely to face challenges in the near future from the undead Canucks (and quite possibly the MWC). The Jedi Republic, on the other hand, is honing its lightsabers for the children of Sid Meier in Apolyton, while not ignoring those we have surpassed in our climb.

The time will surely come when our empires MUST face each other in battle, and it will most likely be glorious for victor and vanquished alike. Until then, let us end this senseless spat.

Oh, and if you concentrate on the Canadians, remember they have good beer. 'Nuff said.

It is pretty safe to say we didn't start it and we hardly need to finish it. The outcome was already certain. If you want a official peace accord written in some fancy diplomatic language on gold-leafed parchment and hand delivered, not going to happen. That is not the boss' style. Ask him nicely and he might wander over to your thread, collect some war tribute, thank you for the booze and then warn that you if there is a next time, he won't settle for some meagar excuse of a peace offering. You folks need to stay on Dagoba longer with Master Yoda and complete your Jedi training. Then you may be worthy to fight the dark menace that is GROSS. :)

We were at war with the Republic. It is now dead. Let it be a lesson to all those that would oppose us. I see the Jedi republic has rison from its ashes. I am unaware of any hostilities between we and the Jedi Republic. Perhaps the Jedi Republic leaders will have a little more sense when it comes to paying beer tribute.

Sorry if I misspoke, Gerakken. I think StBlasius is new - both of his games were posted yesterday. Current intel is vital for clear communications.

The boundary is somewhere between standing up and walking with great difficulty and passing out. :) Cross that line only if you are willing to face great peril.
