Drengin are just absurd!

I realize that they are the developers favorite but this is really not fun. Every game (nearly) they are dominant in every category very quickly. As soon as they meet me they attack. I am as strong or better but if i drop a tiny bit, here they come. and this is with all the other civs virtually a flat line in mil strength. I was using hammers to hold 'em of but guess what, NERFED. So far, all my tools have been nerfed (PQ15, starbases/culture, hammers) but overall I still admire the level of support.

P.S. All our posts here and to the metaverse just lead to more nerfing. Yes, I know all about modding, not updating, etc. but would like to go with the flow if it did not lead to losses in most of my games. I have over 50 pages of notes from the various forums so knowledge is not the problem--guess I am. I just cannot find a balance of difficulty, size, strategy. I am now going to set all civs to neutral and drop to sub-normal on large and see if I can have sonme fun.

On the higher difficulty levels, it seems like the Drengin come back to the pack. Dunno, maybe it's just me. Of course, I rarely make it very far on higher difficulty levels, so . . .

Each AI's strategies work out better depending on the player they're up against.

I personally find the Yor and Arceans to be my main challenge.

Interesting, I sort of thought that it is my style vs the ai (i tend to turtle) that is getting me in trouble. I have allied (me in 2nd and ~equal to Drengin #1) with the 3rd almost = power and still been hosed in essentially a 2-to-1. I keep playing though...

Words of "the man himself". Drengin are Pure Evil, so they attack! But build some proper defense, and they are not so bad ;)

My problem is that the last 5 games I've played the Drengin owned everyone. This is on bright AI setting.

Last 5 games? Forgot to submit them to the metaverse? Or just lost them? Drengin are not the major power on higher AI levels in my experience.

"Submitting hasn't worked for me since the last game on there thx".

Have you reported this in the Bug Thread? If not, do so, the devs WILL respond! ;)

In addendum I take that back... I dont really have a problem with it. Someone's gotta be the strongest if it's not me.

The Dregins are usually stong in my games too, but the Yor and Torians, I dont think Ive ever had one game that they ever where a threat to me. They were either killed by another comp or by me. I usually like to Warmonger away in most of my games.

Yor and Alterians are my usual biggest problems. Especially the Yor. Somehow I always end up allied with them and then they stab me in the back. Never mind that I've come to expect it; they still manage to do it! :(

Well no wonder the Drengin are peeved.. you all keep misspelling their races name! I would be cross to. >:(

heh.. anyways, the Drengin don't always attack me. But this last game it is other races that give me a hard time. I've had almost equal troubles with all, in fact. The Torians (aka brocolli heads) can be nasty, as can the pipeheads.. (yes, both races).

Anyways.. the Drengin have a bully / extort / attack philosophy. They can be manipulated.. muahahaa. ;p

Within the game there is the spelling "Drengin" and "Dregin"...personally I like "Dregin"...sounds evil

I play evil alignment, and I go for infrastructure over fighting, and for me 9 of 10 games at normal or above are dominated by me on one end and the ever-present Torian-Altarian alliance on the other. The Drengin, Arceans, and Yor are just bit players unless they get a fantastic starting location.

Only in one game of mine (all Normal or less) have the Drengin actually been a major power and they eventually cracked under a war with me. What planets I didn't take by force started falling to me via culture and they eventually game up to me (this was all late game mind you).

My nemisis if you will is always the Alterians. They always hate me no matter what alignment I am and how much trade I have with them. Torians are usually pretty big every other game or so. I'm usually on the evil side of neutral but not quite evil. The Yor are *always* my buddies. Heck, in one game I had the Yor, Drengin, and a couple minor races all kept giving me ships to fight off the all powerful Alterians. Got my butt kicked that game big time.

The Drengin are tough at first but just throw them a bone or two. They are easy to out tech. Once that is accomplished, extract your pound of flesh. The Torians, on the other hand, are a much more balanced adversary.

Its interesting because each of my games are so different. Drengins are frequently the top guys, but I think at some point or another I've played games where each of the major races were the dominant races. Although in my games the only odd man out seems to be the Yor.

In all of my games the drengin have a great military head start but get owned by the torians or altarians early. the yor have the really bad habit of starting on a small cluster in the corner and are of less consequence than the i-league or fundamentalists.

Except for one game where I achieved alliance with the Altarians they have typically always been my main enemy.

Torians get pushy too early and once you break them they stay broken. While at peace, the Arceans keep feeding ships to whichever side is weaker in a war but this can be countered by buying a Yor or Drengin DOW on the Arceans.

Drengin and Yor like to fight, so once you see them making threats make sure you use your cash to direct their efforts elsewhere rather than pay tribute to them. It's always better to get something for your cash ;)

Well, I tend to have most problems with the Drengin dominating the other races (Normal+Bright level) so I just turned down their AI level by one setting compared to other races.

Problem solved!

I have had troubles with all AI's in the games I've played thusfar. Those have been sub-normal, normal, bright and intelligent games.

In my current intelligent game the Yor and Torians are dominating. I'm a good third, while the Arceans and Altarians are the weaklings of the galaxy. The Drengins started out awesome with good economy and military. But they got too greedy and their warfare with the Torians, and the Altarians at the same time cost them. I was amazed by the efficiency the Torians showed by taking them out. In about 15 turns the Drengin got completely crushed by the Torians and decided to surrender.

I'm trying to be friends with the Torians, but it's hard since they don't seem to really like my neutral me. Anything better than the Yor though!

SO what is it with the yor? What do they do that every gets messed up by? I haven't run into them doing anything in most of my games. In almost every game (essentially every AI difficulty up to incredible, my current game), they tend to be like the drengin, doing rather well at the start and then plumet. But unlike the drengin who are very good at starting wars, they don't seem to have a strategy I've seen. What is their goal?

The Yor got wiped out VERY early in my current game on Bright settings. I was very surprised, since at the time I think I only had contact with a minor race and the Altarians and Arceans!

I usually find the Drengin to be the bane of my civilization. I tend to leave it until too late to start fortifying my planets with ships and end up falling too far behind so the Drengin come knocking on the door for money until they get tired of that and attack. :)
This game, though, I've had the Drengin's doing their usual tough guy routine for a while, then the Arcean's joined in for a while (!!) but both made the foolish mistake of not following through on their threats and I managed to overtake both them and my Altarian buddies in military power.

No idea what the Torians have been doing while all this has been going on. Presumably sitting around wishing their skin didn't look so delicious or something. :)

Rainmanblack, it would at least make a difference when you upgrade your game to the lastest version as it looks like you're still playing 1.01
