Colony Ships

I understand how to build colony ships. I also understand how to use the fleets screen to select the colony ship once built and then right clicking to set a destination. My problem is that a) I have no idea how to get the colonists onto the colony ship and b) why the colony ship will not move. Please help.

Click on the star the ship is at, and in the small window in the lower right, double click on the colony ship. In the window below you will see a slider where you can set the population to load into the ship. Then click on the Launch button to get it out of orbit and onto your starmap.

Click on the colony ship in the planet screen. Then click on the green launch button. You will see a slider on the bottom asking how many citizen from the TOTAL SYSTEM (not one planet) you wish to load. Then you click launch and it will appear.

Find a desired system. Right click on it. Make sure NO ONE controls it. Then when you arrive you will have a colony ship shaped cursor to hover over planets in that system. Enjoy your new colony.

Considering how ubiquitous I see this problem being for new players, I have to wonder if there isn't a more intuitive way...

I just read through the entire manual and the srategy guide on this site. There is no mentions about how to load colony ships, transports or any mention of the ship list interface options. Considering how small the buttons are and how vague their meaning is, it would have been a good idear to mention it somewhere in the manual.

Double click on the colony ship to launch it, or click the launch button. This brings up a little dialog with a slider.  As you move the slider to the right, it increases the number of colonists on the ship.  Make sure that you leave some people on the planet. :)

Don't load to many. Have your origional planet continue producing colony ships at a fast rate so you can expand quicker. My normal launch is 150 to 160 billion.
