The all Powerful Resource

I was in a tight spot already, but then... I received a message (paraphrasing) in last nights game that the Arceans just discovered a resource that would allow the empire to grow beyond belief. The message said that I must act now against the Arceans or lose.

I am the weakest Major civ in this Painful 1.03 game, the Arceans are 5th. Two turns later, the Drengin, the most powerful empire, deeclare war on me. I am holding my own with the help of a few friends (actually the Arceans are one of those "friends" I convinced to attack the Drengin for the cost of a trade good.)

First off I assume this Arcean "resource" is the very rare Life Force resource.

Has anyone received this message? Is it the life Force resource? My hands are tied with the Drengin at the moment, how important is it that I act against the Arceans, other than the money I am spending to destabilize his empire?

How deep is my dookie? and is there life after dookie?

I think this message is the one that indicate that this race (the arceans, for you) will randomly get some bonus points every turn to one of its capabilities (attack, hitpoints, pop, etc...). So if you wait too long you will end up with an enemy too powerful to be handled with :sniff!: .

In my previous game, I think the Yor had that and at some point ahead the only way I could save myself was restricting myself to a defensive war (keeping my ships in orbit) while I build several constructors and then created a terror star in his best sector (2 stars, 4 or 5 planets).

I had no choice but to terror-star it. That crippled him enough for me to take two of his system by traditional warfare. :) . Once they were limited to two planets, no ships and a huge deficit (-20000), they were no long a threat :D .

But until that tile they were very powerful, and took out 3 other civs, although I had convinced everyone to declare war on them.

Hope this helps

I had this happen last night, but I ignored it because they were already under attack by the more powerful Drengin. I assumed the Drengin were going to win (which they did) and was preparing for the all-out cultural attack on the later victorious Dregin. I timed it well and by the time he was done with them, he was too late to save himself.

I try to stay friends with the race with the life force resource and then culturally assimilate them. :d

Wait, so the message about another civ becoming "more powerful" is actually them finding the Life Resource? :notsure: Then it actually *is* in the game? And can the player find it, or is it just the AI?

No, that was an assumption made, and it isn't actually true, not to the best of my knowledge at least.

I've seen that message about... oh, every 4 games. I ignore it. Doesn't seem to make a bit of difference to my games.

Is anyone sure that event isn't a red herring, meant to get the player to go do something er... drastic?

No, it's not a red herring as I've been on the receiving end. I watched the Arceans go from having about half the number of planets I did and being a bit behind in tech to totally dominating the map and wiping me out to my last planet.

It's a slow build up, but they do get increasingly poweful bonues (e.g. they had no military resources and I controlled a few plus had the War Party bonus - their ships still had 30% more HP, ATT, & DEF than mine).

yeah same here CM, I had a fleet (5+) of avatars LEVELED by one or two Rangers with Arcean markings. I love when you leave the "grace of god" race alone (even though you are advised to do otherwise) only to have them say "You have been a great ally, but we feel it is better to deal with you now, rather than later... sorry."

OOPS! MY DRINK SPILLED ON THE KEYBOARD AND HIT "CNTRL+N", I SWEAR TO GOD!
