Where are the "Space Sharks"?

Where are the "Space Sharks"?

I am playing in a gigantic galaxy and have been playing this game for a while. Where are the space monsters that I've heard about? They haven't shown up and the Dregini are gone and the Yor are on their way out with the Arceans close behind. Just me, the Torians and the Altarians are the primary players. The other two do have an alliance and I'm trying to join it or get a tech victory.

So, where are the sharks? I actually want to get a look at them before wiping them out with Battle Hammers or build a Dreadnought.

I have completed 6 or 7 games now, with AI ratings from Normal to Intelligent, and at least 1 of each galaxy size.

I have hosted the zoo twice ("won" it the first time, stuck with it the second time).

I have seen the AI get a Precursor Ranger when every one else was on Corvettes or Battlecruisers.

I have found 6 Precursor Corvettes in an event.

But in all my travels, sir, I have never seen you! (Sorry, couldn't help it.)

In all my games, I have never seen a Space Monster. I have occasionally seen Espionage reports tell me a given civilization is at war with Space Sharks, but I have never ever seen any myself. (Heck, I haven't seen Pirates, even though other races are supposedly at war with them, and I have personally gotten the "pirates" event once.)

Out of 4 games, I've only gotten one Precursor Ranger and a couple corvettes, but the AI seems to have great luck digging them up.

In my current game I sent an Excalibur in to attack the Yor, and I came across a stack of 100 Precursor Corvettes! :( My Excalibur didn't take any damage when they attacked, but it took a good 5 minutes for them to finish hurling themselves against me. LOL

Keep in mind that when the Precursor event happens, it is going to (usually) happen to one of six players. That doesn't even mean that out of six games that the event occurs in that you are guaranteed to get it once. It may take many more games than that before you get it. Try rolling a die six times and see how often you get a one. Do that several times and you'll start to get an idea of the likelyhood of your getting the precursor event out of any number of games in which the event occurs (all other things being equal, which they are actually not, but you can influence that with the Luck bonus).

By the way, I have gotten a couple of Precursor events myself, including a couple that were Rangers, in fact two Rangers in one game if I remember correctly. So it does happen.

From the sound of it, mayhaps they should be introduced via the "Spaceballs" soundtrack. That is, with a slight modification. :-)

I've purposefully voted the zoo to myself a couple times, i just always made sure to park a half-dozen AM missiles next to the "lucky" planet :)

Good idea, Daetrinn!

That one also occured to me as well...AMM's certainly will put a dent into the Great Whites.

Just don't run out of MP's and park one of your ships by them when they go off! ;)

Those sharks can turn out to be useful:
My zoo planet was in the same sector as some Altarians and the space sharks killed their starbase that was on the resource in that sector. Naturally I grabbed it once the sharks were killed off. They ate up almost my whole fleet, that's OK I needed to clear out the deadwood. :)
