I find this a tad disturbing

I find this a tad disturbing

"The sanderons are a very liberal, but well meaning society"

So is this saying Liberals are not well meaning? I don't see conservitive members of society reaching out to help their fellow man ;p They're more interesting in hoping they'll help themself

In short... CONSERVITISM SUCKS!!

Well, clearly it has NRA propaganda, Brad. Why, *everyone* in a system defends against invasion. The message is obvious to me: If we don't have mandatory weapon training and ownership, aliens will overrun us! ;)

Phaedyme,

off to buy a riot shotgun. Those Drengin will never get me.

Great joke, DblDamage!

Vridian, it sounds like your politicians formulate their positions solely based on thwarting the opposition, regardless of how good an idea it is or what the best interests of the public are.

Unfortunately, you are seeing that more and more here in America from the Democrats (e.g., fighting tax cuts, which have been repeatedly proven to be the biggest factor in triggering economic growth). Of course, if a Democrat somehow wins in 2004, watch how quickly they will implement some sort of tax reform, since they know this to be the truth (not that they'd ever admit it, though). They just can't afford to give Bush ANOTHER victory at this point.

Hey, who spoiled the tongue in cheeck tone of this thread?

"... fighting tax cuts, which have been repeatedly proven to be the biggest factor in triggering economic growth..."

I'd like to hear a real economist say that LOL

Bobo say many people care about politics. Many people like talk and argue about politics. Everybody always right; others always wrong. My side good; your side bad.
Bobo never win talking politics and Bobo smart! Maybe Bobo start argue on religion instead
Maybe not. Bobo think just as boring. Bobo play GalCiv and Postal 2.

Have you noticed lately how many people are in a constant state of being "disturbed and offended"? They are usually the same people who cry the loudest about their right to free speech being violated. "Everyone has a right to free speech - as long as they agree with me, that is."

Let me just say that I have no fear of offending other people. And just to prove it, let me add this: Brad, your nipples look like milk duds.

There, I said it. Call the ethics committee.

Liberals by definition are those that want to do a lot, but never do it. They are well meaning and care a lot for their fellow man, but lack the ability to finish what they start. A democrat friend of mine once told me "if you want something done, get a republican to do it". But anyway, this isn't meant to flame any groups. I do say that a number of the minor races are very comical....hippies, liberals, NOW, etc.

Can I tax my civilization to support non-working crack whores contributing nothing to society while squirting out babies left and right? Ya! Go libs!

The Us of A has the democrats and the republicans, which one of those are considered Liberals? Or none of them? I live in The Netherlands, we have a liberal party that actually does alot ;), specialy to increase the economical situation. Of course, on the other hand, this means they are not very fond of socialistic ideas like paying people money when they don't work :) I leave it to you guys to decide which party I prefer :D

DblDamage, your last post disturbed me.....how many times have you seen Brad's nipples?

"American liberals = Democrats = Socialize and tax everything in existence.".

Famous concept, and I assume they are also for MORE civil servants?
LOL . Or do you mean you actually don't want to pay tax? I mean, even in Galciv the population HAS to pay tax else the game is very quickly at an end. ;) But, I have to admit, I have never ever so far INCREASED the tax level. Well, after saying that my political favour will be no mistery anymore (:(

I am not a big believer in taxation (take other people's money without earning it yourself and claim it's for the good of all), but I understand that there must be taxes to some extent. However, I am not interested in their pansy little social programs and I sure as hell am not going to support someone who won't even put forth an effort to help themselves. The needy who are trying, now that is a different matter, but I am not going to pay for a crack whore to sit at home at squirt out babies and have it all supported by tax money. Uh-uh. Forget it. I sympathized with the Dems of the FDR and JFK era, but now they are more Marxist than FDR/JFK. To be fair, the right (Republicans) have extremists too.

"Travis Seeber", you are right, but from time to time we need a little break from this awesome game. I tried to break the tension a bit. See what the parties can do in Galciv, you can choose many more than in real life (in the USA), many less than in real life (in The Netherlands) :)

A quick primer for a whole lot of nice folks not from the USA about the two predominant political parties in America. While a lot of rich social conservatives who want to keep their money tend to be Republican, and a lot of people who favor high taxes to fund large social programs tend to be Democratic, the two parties exist mainly to fight each other. If a Democrat says guns kill people, so ban them and let the police handle all matters, a Republican says people kill people, and I have the right not only to get guns, but shoot anyone who messes with me or my property.

Not that all Democrats or Republicans think in black and white like that, there are a lot of moderates in both camps, but that if one party says black, the other party will say white out of spite. There may be a social agenda struggling to get out, but the money and the power and the fight to control them are far more important to the big parties. The Democrats and the Republicans used to be one party. The modern two party system in America is just a civil war between two different off-shoots who have oriented themselves over two centuries into two broad socio-economic camps for the purpose of this war. So, it is essentially a one party system where two elements fight with each other very often for control.

So ignore the big money wizards behind the curtain who exist only to battle each other and let us concentrate on people who should really worry us in American politics. Someone professing allegiance to a minor party is considered far more dangerous in that they probably have a philosophy that could actually stand on its own (instead of merely being what the other guy does not like). If an American says he is a Libertarian or with the Green party or one of the other minor parties that rarely grab seats on the state or national level, you probably have someone with a real social agenda that would be more in line with a European political party in that it is a real agenda that comes first and not just about opposing the other political machine. Third parties are feared, because they could lead to a coalition government if they gained a decent number of House or Senate seats. In fact, one Independent seat in the Senate causes enough problems as it is. Imagine if there were like 4 or 5 Independent seats belonging to a combination of these third parties?

Note that the contents of the preceding post are based on the assumptions, presumptions, and mass consumption of the American political process by Gerakken. Any errors, oversimplifications, or unintended insults are solely his responsibility. :p

You are right, Ger, it's all just one big fight and mud slinging contest. I vote for and side with candidates and not parties.

I would like to retract what I said about Brad's nipples. Apparently, the Milk Dud's people are up in arms over my comments. They want nothing to do with me or Wardell's nipples. Shame.

Either way, I bet none of you will ever look at a Milk Dud the same way again.

Now that I've got your attention, I want to get your opinion on my ideas for two new political parties for GalCiv. They are:

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
+20% Espionage
+10% Trade

The Hollywood Gay Mafia
+20% Morale
+30% Fashion

The Right Wing Conspiracy would not have to pay any extra for planet propaganda. They have talk radio.

The Gay Mafia would have to take a penalty to it's soldiering ability. They can't fight worth a damn, but they have the best looking uniforms in the Galaxy!

DblDamage

P.S. I renamed one of my solar systems Reagan, but I keep forgetting where it is.

"GalCiv is full of radical right wing propaganda designed to confuse and frighten gamers. Things like NRA forever, better dead than red, let the hungry eat the homeless, etc. It's all over the place... NOT."

Radical no. Right Winged, yes. It's so .. US. From your advisor's picture to the Senate its very US. Is that how we picture the world ending up? A US state? (I know, I know, United States State)
I would imagine that a Unified Humanity could only come about through a Socialist government.

Subpoints
- The only way you can increase happiness in GalCiv is to A) build them stuff or B) Spout Propaganda. And Propaganda is moraly wrong so.. No good alternitive?

-I guess there is only one atm..

Before you ask, I do have a grudge against the US government, but I don't have a thing against the people. I have several Conservitive American friends, and we argue all the time.

Right winged politics only serve to perpetuate the gap between the haves and the have nots, Seeing as they are the hard core capitalists, the religious nuts, etc. (I will admit even Left winged radicals have had their share of .. faux pas.. Like the Jacobin party, led by Robespierre in the French Revolution)

I believe in GalCiv there should be a third slider in the Economics bar, Social Welfare, How well you provide for your people, and that bar should cost money, but raise morale and Tax payers, because god forbid we accually make people happy by helping them. (I also believe the Senate should be called Parliment, but that has no grounds)

US Democrats aren't that liberal, there just not extreme conservitive like the other ones. The US political spectrem goes from Extremly Conservitive on the Right to Oh-my-god-I-can't-believe-he-just-said-that Conservitive on the Far Right.

The senate concept was based on the Roman senate actually, not the US senate.

BTW, USA != right wing or left wing. Though I freely admit that the game's political influences have a lot of American concepts in it. I am, after all, an American.

BTW, Sander is (Alexander Antoniades) is one of the writers for GalCiv and did most of the tech descriptions (and the funny stuff in there). He is also the founder of Game Developer Magazine. He and I have political philosophy debates regularly that are very light hearted so we put in some inside humor into the game. There's riffs on a ton of stuff in the game if you look hard enough. Even Microsoft gets teased some.
