Mobile *Starbases*

So, the other night I was playing a game and I managed to get it into a state where a newly built SB had movement points! It had 4/0 movement points and I was able to move it, *along with the attached resource*!

Very bizarre. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

Well, sounds like a bug to me, if that wasn't already obvious. What version do you have? 1.02? What type of resource was it? How many other starbases were in the sector with the 4/0 movement? Did movement stop after you left that system? How many Drengin asses did you kick? :)

AFAIK, the only way a starbase can move is if you complete the terror star upgrade, and then it is only at a lousy 1 space per month. Did you do the terror star thing?

Let us know, this is very interesting.

Version 1.2
Econ resource, I believe?
Just that one starbase could move, it wasnt empire-wide
Movement stopped after I exhausted the 4/0 and it never came back
No Drengin were killed as a result, sadly :)
Nope, it was a normal SB, not a terror star

Yeah, it appears that it is a bug. I think the way I got it to happen is that I had a constructor fleeted with an attack ship. This fleet was then ordered to move to an enemy starbase. It did, destroyed it, and then automatically asked me if I wanted to harvest the resource. I said yes and it built the SB, but i think it retained the MP of the Constructor or possibily the Fleet it was in? Very interesting. I will experiment more with it if I get a chance.

I have seen this too. I've also found that terrorstars can gain extra movement points if you stack large enough ships with them. I think at one point, I got a terror star moving several spaces at a time. I think maybe the +speed improvements might have something to do with this also. I need to experiment some, but the only time I've seen this happen was when I had a terror star in play.

It happens also if you arrive with a fleet of constructors on a clean resource. Maybe a fighting ship has to be in the fleet.

From what you all are saying, it sounds like there must be a bug with SBs and Fleets, somehow.

Have most recent 1.02 version.

Converted my SB which was a top of a resource into a TS. TS is moving normally, but the resource is still attached to it.

It has only happened to me after a reload, but when it did, yep, the terror star took on the speed of the dreads that it had been stacked with. Most annoying because I then had to baby sit it, moving it one square at a time or feel like I was the most cheatingist SOB in the galaxy.

In general, there is something very wrong with the way they designed the game to store the data about each ship. We get speeding terror stars, we get shipyard and foundry bonuses that go away after a reload. Hopefully it will all be fixed soon.

This specific effect is intended, AFAIK.

In my current game, my terror star started out with one move/turn. Then it joined with its defense fleet. After a few turns, and maybe when I reloaded the saved gae the next day, it had 6 MP (like my dreads I think). And it remained that way ever since. (I'm still playint on 1.02.049).

Arturus: Why? Is that logical? What does a terror star do with a resource?

It's logical in a game sense, not in a realistic sense.

Anyway, a terror star does the same thing with a resource that any starbase does: It mines it.

(I actually think the terror star's potential for moving valuable resources out of high risk areas is vastly understated).

A Terror Star is a giant planet sized construct. If you're mining a resource, it's basically built around that resource.

Assuming that the resources are all about the same mass (and one is stated to be an asteroid-type object), engines powerful enough to move a planet at 36c (1 parsec/mo.) are going to be able to tug around an asteroid with no problems whatsoever.
