What is the "Final Frontier"?

The next step in human evolution. I was busy drooling away at the fan site tech list (particularly impressed with everything available) and there it was, one of the victory conditions.

Seeing how some of the prerequisites are near omnipotence and near omniscience (having enough technology to do nearly anything) one has to wonder exactly what this vision is. So humanity transcends and merges with the 4th dimension of time. What is to become of them? Do they become god-like beings who can alter reality at their very whim like the classic 5-d comic book villains (yes I know, 5-d is not 4-d) or the Star Trek Qs? This has ignited my imagination as I wait somewhat impatiently for the 26th.

I think there can be many ways to envision this, but my favorite is the Star Trek (the original TV series) episode that had three hyper-intelegent entities in bottles that wagered on the battling abilities of members of the Enterprise crew.

Another favorite of mine is the image of the life essence being able to live and function effectively outside of a biological body.

But that is the nice thing about this game. It lets you use your imagination about some things.

Bah! Imagination is overrated LOL
I want to know that my soon to be supreme empire will transcend into omnipotent godlike beings ;)

The thing I am digging about GalCiv is the obvious Babylon 5 influence. With this in mind, I imagine a race achieving this type of technology and power being comparable to the Vorlons or the Shadows -- just one step from leaving our galaxy and passing beyond the rim into the unknown.

Here is a cool quote that sums it up nicely:

"There are beings in the universe billions of years older than either of our races. Once, long ago, they walked among the stars like giants, vast and timeless. They taught the younger races, explored beyond the rim, created great empires. But to all things there is an end. Slowly, over a million years, the First Ones went away. Some passed beyond the stars, never to return. Some simply disappeared."

for me i would have to agree with the babylon 5 type thing as it seems more plausible to me, however it is very intriging

Maybe it is just a ... hmm.. Victory Condition ! LOL
Why are all humans so irremediously religious, always seeking "where is beyond" ?
May The Final Frontier be ... rationalism ? :D

I imagine a race so powerful, so advanced, that they have developed medicines that will reduce the length of common colds to just one day.
Also, they will have antenae like Ray Walson in My Favorite Martian.

The final frontier is a technology that allows human beings to transcend time and space and travel to the mysterious realm that socks at the laundrymat disappear to.

With an eternity's worth of socks recovered, complete and total domination of the universe will be possible.

I kind of see The Final Frontier in the same way Lucky Jack does, where humanity trancends into just pure essence. Being able to manipulate the universe with just a single thought, and other extreme powers like that.

Or perhaps I'm off on my prediction. Perhaps humanity gets transported to another dimension, inside a large castle where a talking mushroom tells you the princess is in another castle. LOL
