Draginor Empire - "Something evil is growing on plant X"

Not sure if they are always called the Draginor or the name is random, but in two of my games so far I, and the other core races, have been wiped out utterly by these guys. I get the message "Something evil is growing on planet ..." (or something similar) - at first I ignored it, but the second time I built a big orbital defence force around the planet listed. About when I am starting to build battleships, the Draginor appear on the planet and take it over instantly, no battle or anything - my force gets shunted out of orbit.
Then the very next turn, and every turn afterwards, an overlord ship gets built on the planet. Within 50 turns or so the Draginor complete a military victory over every single race on the map.
These guys are pretty unstoppable, like borg type creatures decimating everything in their path. The USS Hero is no Enterprise at this point in the game! They don't negotiate at all and seem to have unlimited funds.

Anyway, I was just wondering what the low down on this race is - is there a way to stop them being "born" after getting the "Evil" message? How random are they? How do you fight something like that? How come they can churn out Overlords so fast on a planet I know can't afford to.

I thought I would be annoyed with this kind of deus ex machina race, but its actually quite awing to see something rip through your heavily defended far reaching empire so easily- reminds me of something out of Babylon 5.

Any hints?
Cheers

Ya, these guys sux ass because their so good. What you have to do is if you get that message read it carefully. It will tell you which planet this evil is growing from. If it's a planet with uncolinzed worlds build a colony ship and transfer them off the planet to their or just get as many people off as possible. If you can't then you can destroy the colony. To do this on the planet screen their is a button called details in the lower left corner, click that then you can destroy the colony with the destroy colony button. If all else fails and they appear make a peace treaty with them. They go for it all the time, this way you can live a little longer. Hope that helps ;)

Destroy the colony, obliterate it, wipe it off the face of the galaxy. I'm sure you'll agree that the penalty incurred by it's destruction is the least of two evils :)

Chickens ;)

Cheers for the advice. I have just read some of the backstory and it seems these Draginor types are quite powerful to say the least. I'll be destroying them from now on. I agree they are not really worth the hassle, especially because every turn you have a core race pleading for your help in the battle. Out of interest can they also randomly appear on AI planets?

Hmmm. I wonder if after you destroy the colony if you can then re-colonize it safely.. In a sense 'rebooting' the event. I mean, if the turn off is removing the colony then perhaps the evil is turned off permenently?

I'm definatly going to experiment with this.

I think I read somewhere that when he recolonized the planet, some time later the Draginor were back :sniff!:

I actually won against them. I ignored the evil growing thing and then sudden I lost my colony. I sent dozens and dozens of ships (Dreadnoughts) against them but they would destroy most of them. Other species would also send fleets of ship against them. I won only after one of the planet joined the I-League and the other one was conquered (I guess). Afterwards, I rebuilt everything and went on for a cultural victory. It was a close call. I kept on repulsing their ground invasion on Sol. Sol was only 3 clicks from the Draginol planet.

In the early and mid game this event can be catastrophic, but if it happens nearer the end game then it is like mana from heaven. The Draginol pop with like 150000 gold and great tech, which means if you beat them down you can come out with one hell of a peace treaty. I had one for 2000 a turn for 10 turns, for instance. But it is risky, as noted above they can really pump some ships, so this kind of 'farming' can get out of hand. The good thing is that once you make peace with them they generally keep attacking the other AIs so they have great value in keeping them busy.

One other thing I found out, they can have just the one world, you conquer it, but their ships still fight on for several turns afterwards before poofing. So don't let your guard down too quick. :)

I've seen them once...Was lucky enough to have them show up in the heart of my empire, where it was easy to speed Avatar production. They took one planet, and didn't get any further than destroying the starbase for that sector. I'd like to see this happen earlier in the game, because it came literally 10 turns before the end. Stuff like this keep you guessing about this game :)

Nope, if you destroy the colony then recolonize the event still happens. Best thing to do is surround system with transports when you get the message, then invade once the colony goes evil (before any of those damn overlords get built!).
