Aussie Empire?

Aussie Empire?

Before the release of GalCiv there was a thread on the forum regarding the availability of the game in Australia. After a number of people responded someone suggested that we make an empire of Australian players once the game proper was released.

Were people still interested in doing this? (I did a quick check to make sure someone hadn't already created an aussie empire but could not find any)

Ok got the games now finally, joined up to the Aussie empire, but I am not registered as being in it. No little flag dooby whacky. When I click on the my empire bit in the metaverse it takes me to the Aussie Empire and I have the option to quit it if I want to.

I use the sames name and email in the metaverse and these forums. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Jeatalong who is going to be heading to the Northern frontier in a fortnight.

Slitherin: Have a player from the Mainland join with the West Islanders?? Don't Do It Damian!!!

There must be more than one NZer around these forums... And whatever is wrong with the Union Jack?

Alice Springs, but the far south coast of NSW first off. Job contract runs out and am taking a job managing an internet cafe up there.

I was a lurker on these boards first, then got the game. So I guess it was the boards first then the metaverse. I have the stardock utility and will give it a try now

Didn't know you were from Perth too Slitherin, I am 35k north so I guess we're not that close. 80k you say? What's that, Mandurah?

I am 21 and the referendum was the first and last time I voted in this great nation.

Alice, I hate Alice. Sorry to the people that live here. But I am looking forward to going up to Darwin to work in the companies other Internet Cafe.

Tried using the Stardock Central utilities. Also I am noticing that my last couple of games haven't been updated in the metaverse, even though they were pretty shit scores.

Jeatalong - in an earlier post you mentioned that you had joined the empire but it doesn't seem to have registered.

It is interesting that you can click on 'My Empire' and you are given the option to quit, though as you have pointed out you don't have the flag icon at the bottom of your posts.
When I click on 'My Empire' it does not show you in the list which may explain the flag not being there.

Have you had any luck trying Slitherin's suggestions?
Since you have a Metaverse ranking I can't think why you aren't displayed as being in the empire.
Perhaps you could simply try to quit the empire and then re-join.

Let us know how you go.

Here's looking forward to some friendly competition with my Aussie friends!

Had an awesome time when my wife and I vacationed there (and some other island near-by) in 2000.

Maybe we should become The ANZACS so that we can have our dear brothers and sisters from The Islands join us! There is no other way that the Southern Hemisphere is going to get to the top 5 empires. I can't help but notice Citizen Cataleptic is currently number 2 in the rankings!!! Now that is dedication. ;)

Umm. Good question: is there an ANZAC flag? Wouldn't the Southern Cross flag cover all of New Zealand/Australia/associated Territories? Its just a thought. What do Warty and Slitherin think? After all, Warty started the Aussie empire....doesn't he know its the weekend already?

As for tips, I want to know what Cataleptic does! Are you out there Cat? No.... Oh well, he's probably playing another gigantic map! All I know is that it is bloody hard yakka to get those big scores. Kiss any enjoyment in the last few hours of a game out the window. Anyway, I find it really interesting to read the boards and see what other gamers are doing.

My 2 bobs worth for the early game is this:
- Found that 50% increase in hit points is good to have (ie War Party) especially against Drengin in early game.
- Starting position is *really* important. Keep pressing Contol+N until I get at least several yellow stars in the first sector and can colonise a good second planet on 1st turn.
- Then I put the bars to 100% spending on technology (bee line for diplomacy= Republic). Pay for my first 2 colony ships (hence don't need $ going to military on 1st or 2nd turns). When I can, I purchase Diplomatic Translators (need those to get more $ from trading).
- By the 3rd or 4th turn I re-adjust spending between military and technology. By 5th turn should have 4 planets making colony ships.
- Personally I love the independent civs in early game. Can milk them for cash thru tech selling and sometimes intimidation.
- Cash is king in this game. Bargain hard to sell tech for a good price to every civ. The more they go into debt the less $ they have to invest in research (in theory).
- Next problem is military. I go for corvettes ASAP although some players reckon this is a dead alley. I try to build up rapidly after get Corvette tech (ie military spending really high). This dissuades the constant threats from other civs, and means I can win the first couple of wars and then settle for big war reparations.
- When I have a steady income stream, I start investing in spying. By mid-game I keep a very close eye on what every civ is doing with their spending (esp Altarians).
- By mid-game my population & economy start to catch up with other civs. After mid-game my influence starts to catch up through constructor madness.
Hope this makes sense.

to every body.

Good to see you Aussies getting organised :)

I dont live in New Zealand any more, but you have to stay true to your roots, eh :)

I don't mind the idea of an ANZAC empire.

Though it looks like Kiwi Greg has started up the Kiwi empire which could provide some friendly rivalry.

LOL just me in it and I am stuck in a gigantic empire so wont be submitting a score for a wee while yet (but I am winning so it should be worth mucho points).

But for any NZers out there empire "Kiwi" is free to join :)
