Alliances question??

If you ally with someone who is allied to your NEW ally..how does the alliance work if someone gets attacked? In my latest game, only Me, the Altarians and the Arceans are left. The two have been allied for awhile. I recently allied with the ALtarians. What would happen if the Arceans attacked me?

The Altarians might aid whomever they are closer to (break one alliance), or they might break both alliances (causing a galactic war). Do you have Allied Victory on? You might want to try to butter up the Arceans for an alliance and easy win.

In situations like that it seems like the third race joins the second race against me. >:(

Once, I was allied with both Altarians and Torians. Then they both have war with each other. My senate decided it would be best to stay neutral between them.
