I posted some good wishes to the folks over at the MOO3 board, hope you all agree.

These fellas have had a hard time, they were finally told today that there is indeed a series of patches in the works. Just felt like saying something. Fell free to reply to this thread. And if I stepped out of line Frogboy go ahead and delete this thread. I see you are still up, man don't you ever sleep.

This what I said to them:

Hello there, this is RustyBlade, & this is my first post here.

Although I did elect to wait for my purchase of MOO3 for quite a while yet. I will give it a real good try once after a few patches.

I understand it is a very differant 4x game than where my interest finally landed after downloading several old 4x demos, but at the same time I have heard some possitive things about MOO3 even from some of you that were less than thrilled. Better action clips, I suspect maybe better music.

Although after quite a bit of reading and research I am looking forward to Galactic Civilizations it is not going to be released until 3/26/03. And I will still be sceptical enough to buy via a local Gamestop store so I can return it for seven days. I wouldn't even bother until I read SEVERAL professional reviews, as Command & Conquer Generals infuriated me on many points, with high ratings or not. But I suspect as you will find just as I did, that once I read several documents in their Galactic Encyclopedia, and viewing some really interesting threads in their forums. In particular about the A.I. and what all is moddible. I suspect this is the game with the current likelyhood of lots of fun in the short term.

MOO3 will be a great game eventually I don't doubt it. But I would hesitate to give the publisher a big proportion of my time until, it is not so much work, to make it fun for myself.

I say this with true compassion, you paid for it, put it on a shelf, wait till you get some service, a few patches, then boot it up and try it again. But in the mean time. Shelve it. And play some games you have been meaning to get around to. Disciples II is getting an expansion pack, time to brush up, play some Counter Strike or something. Let your self of the hook and have some fun. And if you can't help but think 4x then you are more than welcome to kill some time at www.galciv.com . :) See you around the Galaxy.

Well, I think it is in poor taste to go on another company's website and pump another game. Now if someone there raises a question, I have no problem. But to spam their board with a post about GalCiv, I just don't know about that.

I know you did it with good intentions but it may not be well received over there.

I saw a few other threads on that forum where GalCiv was mentioned and the MOO faithful started bashing it. Some even said things about the game that were completely untrue in an effort to keep others from buying it.

One said he couldn't wait for it to come out so he could watch it get skewered by the flamers that have infested the MOO boards!

A lot of the disappointed people have come over to this board and shown interest but not everyone over there feels MOO is a bad game.

There have been tons of posts over there (IG MoO3 Forum) about GalCiv & Space Empires 4 Gold since day one of its release.

MoO3 was 'supposed' to rejuvenate the 4x space game genere because it was going to be so great.

Now, with all its problems it is giving a big boost to these two games.

Sort of ironic. ;)

After about 10 hours my post was on the second page in their forum. 43 views and no replys, nor flames. Seeing how high emotions are running over there I think my good wishes were understood by most. Just another gamer posting.

Actually, that is what "off topic" forums are for. MOO3 has one. I'm sure it might be a little irritating for "some" on the dev team in the company, but they know that if they try to stop people from being objective, effectively censuring people, they know that won't help them.

But don't get me wrong. I too wish them the best. I hope the patches will put the strategy elements back in the game that they took out as they put so much focus on "streamlining" the game.

It was hard just browsing their forums. So many + & - flaming. Beta tester getting flamed. It just seemed to me an outside voice saying kick back and do anything else for a while, let em fix it a little. Then try it again. Heck if they do actually succeed with the "series" of patches they have planned I would be willing to bet a largeproportion of GalCiv players will end up with both games on their hard drives. A quick scan of the "Where did you hear about GalCiv?" thread leaves little doubt that plenty of people where already coming from there. This game doesn't need me or anybody else to farm another games clientel. But I do believe it doesn't hurt to show support for other gamers who obviously enjoy the same style games as ourselves. :notsure: :)

I agree with what your saying. If people were dissatisfied for whatever reason, they should make suggestions, use objectivity :notsure: , and constructive critisisms, instead of going off half-cocked, making short sighted or shallow flames and such. (:(

I got tired of seeing it at the MOO site too. It made me want to leave. Hostility is a big turn-off. It made me feel like telling all the flamers to "keep their pants on." Sheeez. I haven't used that cliche for so many years.

I really hope the MOO3 devs realize that when they took out some MiM controls for key strategy elements, they removed some of the core strategey, severely reducing the game's scope and depth of strategy, thus removing the player from the game. I went into detail about that in my short review I posted there. I can only hope it made a few devs sit up and take notice. Hmmmmm. :notsure:

I sure hope they fix what **needs** fixing.
