New CHEESE from the Diplo-CHEESEMEISTER:

Playing INTELLIGENT. I'm Demonic at this point.

Altarians and Yor at war with me.

I go to the Altarians and make peace- offering to attack the Torians (who I know to be a VERY weak-willed race at this point). They go for it, throwing in 100x20 turns... very nice. I immediately go to the Torians and offer them peace at the price of 100x20 (they pay me this too). They go for it too. Result- I'm off scott free with 200x20 BC credits.

Ok, maybe at Normal level this would be OK, but at Intelligent, I think the AI should consider how long a WAR with whoever I offer to attack might actually last and be worth.

Loved that I could do this... but I think the AI values too much an offer to attack someone if that someone is too far from me or is weak- it's a hollowoffer at that point.

Maybe it should invoke a minimum time you have to be at war before you start receiving payment or payments stop once yer at peace with the target.

Or you could go the CivIII route. They use a 20 turn base for agreements like this. Break one early, and the AI wouldnt trust you next time and payments immediately stop. Plus, the other AI's would hear of this and be less likely to trust you with such an agreement.

Given how much Brad has put into this AI, I would say this concept of 'integrity' could be a definite bonus to making the AI more human-like.

Nope, it's still in. I think the 20 turn solution would be OK, except for the fact that the Altarians should have forseen the deal as WORTHLESS and not agreed to it in the first place- the Torians were pretty much out of my range, totally wimpy (so even had I bothered to go to war with them it would only benefit MY empire, not like the Torians are a threat to the Altarians) and I'm Demonic while the Altarians are... well, goody-goody. So they KNOW where things are gonna end up.

The end results of the first agreement with the Altarians was BOUND to be disadvantageous to them and they should realize that.

It's pretty simple:
Offering to go to war with wimps=worth 0 bcs in trade.
Offering to go to war against guys equal to you in power = a few BC.s
Offering to go to war against tough guys (stronger than you) = worth some BC's.

That's all that I think would need to be done in order to elicit more "sophisticated" behaviour from the AI. What those BC amounts are to the AI, of course, Brad would know best.

You won't be able to get that much with the private build I put up.

See my reply in the "feeling frisky?" thread too.

Ok, I'll have to check that one out then with my next game. This one is over though I only own half the map my economy is 6x to 10x larger than the nearest economy to mine due to this little new "cheese" I've discovered.

You know, I'm not intentionally trying to break the AI's diplo ability... I'm only turning to various strategies as I need them in times of desperation- the cheese unfolds as I follow-up on them and capitalize them into my economy.

I try never to report anything though unless I've thought iabout it enought o offer at least one considered solution to the cheese. If I cna't come up with anything, I'll be keeping quiet, ok?

Well, just finished my current game using this technique and it was a total cakewalk at Intelligent/Large. It would only be easier at a larger sized map, so I'll try the private build I suppose.

I guess I'm finding the AI very very simple to manipulate at the diplomatic table.

I'm stubborn. So, bump.

I'd like to know if this "private" build is something containing ideas headed toward the general release. I've got it but will only have time tomorrow to get into a game.
