Official Stragegy Guide?

Hi!

Yes, okay, seeing how lousy most modern strategy guides are, I haven't bought one in years, myself.

But... *I'm* quite good at this kind of thing. Wrote a book on BASIC (yes, BASIC, I'm ashamed) while I was still a kid, and wrote the 'Unofficial Duke Nukem 3D FAQ' a long time ago (which actually made it into the platinum edition) :)

Enough of me bragging about myself - how about I write a guide like this?
We could do this in two different ways:

a) I write a manuscript, ready for printing (LaTeX, probably, or StarOffice). For this I'd need Frogboys help, as quite a bit of background info would have to be included.
And, obviously, we'd work out a deal about profits, distribution, publishers, etc, etc.

b) I write a web-only thingy, based on strategies seen here in the forums and sent to me via email. This would, of course, be free.

Me, I'd prefere option a, as I could finally dedicate a book to my father (who has written > 25 books, mostly on physics and the like).

What do you think?

I think you should email Brad (Frogboy) directly. :)

I like option (b) myself, because I'm a cheap bastard, but he'll be able to help more on option (a).

All I know is that I need a Strategy Guide because I really suck at this game! I haven't won yet, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can get a good start, but still can't seem to make any decent money. And on top of that, even neutral races that share my neutrality turn on me for no apparent reason. I wish we had the option to choose our starting alignment in addition to configuring our boni.

Klaus Breuer,

You sound like you are serious, and as you say have some experience. So if you e-mail me, and I will send you Brads e-mail address. With the flood of new clients I think he is less open to extra stuff in his mailbox. He is CEO of Stardock and has a huge clientel base in Windowblinds and more.

As for strategy guides. I like both options. I feel there is plenty of room for such material for this product seeing as it is kind of hard to find the sweet spot between to easy and too hard. It is there, and that sweet spot is huge once you find the right balance of galaxy size aggressiveness of AI, Intellect of AI and have learned to plan on a strategy in the first place and follow through with it.

Have you tried playing the game on the easiest settting, having all AI's on fool, will give you a cakewalk setting, which is very good for learning the game. Pick a large or even hugh universe so that you have plenty of time to pratice on some of the games concepts.

I don't want a downloaded strat guide, I want a physical book I can keep open at my side. I think it's real hard to read for understanding on a computer screen.

Of course I could print it out myself, but at the moment I don't have a printer for my laptop..

Still, I prefer a real book in any case.

RustyBlade, thanks for the offer. I'll wait 'till Monday to see if Frogboy emails me himself - would be better than to bother him, as I'm sure he gets plenty of email already ;)

Feadhel, apparently I'm just as obsolete as you are, as I also very much prefer a book...
