How do you mean? If you'd like advice about the game you're certainly in the right place, but I'm not sure how an empire would help. I myself haven't joined any empires, but I've learned quite a bit from the forums -- if you're willing to dig a little you're bound to come up with a few gems.

I'm actually not sure what all these empires are for: there are a few official empire threads around with oodles of posts (don't know what they say, since I don't really visit them) so it must be quite popular to either belong to or "rule" one. Probably a Metaverse or AltMeta thing.

Either way, if you'd like to create an empire, look at those threads and follow suit. Try to get a name, a motivation, an alignment, back story, pics... build it and they will come. ;)

To make your empire successful, you need to distinguish it from others. All the things Unspeakable.Elvis mentioned are good advice. At the least, you might want have your own character join your empire. ;) People are certainly not likely to join an empire with 0 members.

Tyranny of Evil has an excellent group of players who are motivated by, what else, playing EVIL. HAHAHAHAHA. Feel free to check us out. Also, check out our private forum. A lot of what you see will be repeats from this forum, but still an excellent source of evil companions.

Scorpion, definately check out the TOE. We have our own website and there are lots of useful hints on winning games. Also check the MVL which is a great way to get better at different style of gaming and getting known in the community.

I am pretty good at the game nowadays, but I still want people in my empire

Instead of having all three of your characters in your empire, you could have played those games with one of them and display those medals in your forum posts.

Go to 'edit my characters' and select one of them as default. Those medals will then display like others you see in this thread.

Also, if you really want to start your own empire, have a bit of a pep talk and a theme to set it apart from the already existing ones. Maybe a 'new player alliance' or something like that. Not to sound too harsh, but I don't think that those playing in the MV for some time will join if you're still playing on 'simple'. ;)

PS: Don't be too shy about the difficulty. The AI doesn't cheat and until you go beyond tough doesn't receive any boni to their abilities either. Even at the ominous sounding 'crippling' it just has a 25% bonus to the economy. (I myself are just up to tough, but really, once you get the hang of the basics, you should try to progress to at least normal or challenging as quickly as possible. The game is so much more rewarding at those levels since the AI starts to it's full Intelligence only at tough.)

and thanks for the other tips.

Yeah, it took me quite some time to dial up the difficulty as well. Mostly because I was used to the AI receiving unfair advantages from other games. However, the AI in GalCiv2 plays absolutely by the rules, which makes it so much more fun once you realise that you can compete with it.

If you want to know more about the difficulty and when the AI finally starts playing to their full abilities, have a look at this GalCiv Wiki entry.
