Research - How it is reported

Could this be changed?

I was just doing some all labs testing and am not sure if I am blind or if there is a place to see just how much your entire society is researching after bonuses and such.

I know you can go to the timeline chart but there must be a better way.

Can we change it so that on the research screen it shows the total research as well as the cost, I mean we can already get the cost from the domestic screen.

Is there some other place to find it?

Yes, if you look along the top of the research screen, above the technology description there is a Total Research that is in bc.

Hmm? That tells you how much each tech costs to research, which is fine, but not what I am looking for.

The tech screen shows only how many research points you are getting from treaties and how many bcs you are spending on research. It does not include bonus research.

Acually in your civilization manager under the Stats & Graphs tab if you click on the Misc button in the middle of the page it shows current research production, the current tech being researched and how many weeks until the current tech is complete.

I was actually forming up a screen shot of this last night but while doing so I noticed a major discrepancy in the value shown in research production. For the particular game in question it's actually an endgame.sav where I have this information.

The research spending is listed at 22K plus change but it doesn't mention whether this is RP's, TP's or bc's, not that any of these units should make a difference. However checking out my colony screen sorted by research production I have so much more than 22K per week there really is no correspondance. I have one planet at 11K per week another 5 or so at 4-5K per week and the minimum research production of every other planet on the first page of my colony list (at 32 planets per page) is at least 2K RP's per week. This first page totals close to 100K per turn. I haven't done an explicit accounting but I believe that my per week research production for that game was far in excess of 200K per week yet the screen I mention shows it at 22K.

So for what it's worth take a look the Misc button in your Stats & Graphs screen under the Civilization Manager.

If anyone has any kind of explanation for what I'm describing please let me know. I'm not at home at the moment but I'll post a few screenshots later to show what I'm talking about here.

BTW this was a DL v1.31 game from August 2006 where I basically went crazy building 6 separate PQ32 uber tech planets each surrounded by an array of 16 economic starbases to see what kind of score one could get from a gross optimization of research. I doubt very much if research levels have ever been achieved that approach those that I achieved in that game. I have seen people achieve a single uber research planet that got 20K RP's per week but what I did in that game makes that look like childs play.

As far as the impact of research optimization on score, it was very disappointing. Since then I view research as necessary to achieve particular goals within the game, but once those are achieved I shut down all research and build stockmarkets on top of any research buildings. As far as how research contributes to your score you're much better off with a stockmarket even on precusor library (+700% research bonus) tiles.

Well, yes, the only accurate tally of your total research is by bring up a graph in the same screen as you mentioned. Scroll down to research and pick something like the last 20 weeks. There might be a bit of lag as it loads it up, but it gives the total production, including bonus.

I just wish there was an easier way, but there does not appear to be.

The research screen should show

Total Research Produced, Research Treaties, Total Research. If we want to see how much we are spending on research it's quick to go to the domestic screen. I would rather have the total research shown here.
