Galciv III in my dreams

Everything in galciv II is great, apart from the crashes and the graphics, although they still are great, what i meant was that i was dreaming about fleet battles where you could control the ships yourself. for example A tiny ship would be a squadron of 5 a small ship a squadron of 2 or 3 and then the larger ships, you would control your own ships yourself with post HW2 graphics, like SoaSE, just with the galcivy stuff still in it, IE turns and ship designs ad Vast interstellar empires, it would be epic to combine the already epic, wich is a diminutive term, gameplay of Galciv II with Ship battles simmilar to SoaSE or HWI&II.

Funny I was thinking the same thing (sort of) sort of like Star Trek Bridge Commander though but more dynamic and more possibilities/ways of doing things so you could truely emulate a Commander on different levels of standard, Average,Regular,Hero (just sort of ratings which wouldn't exist but essentially in this mode I would imagine a whole field of things you could personally figure out in which to become an amazing ship captain/admiral).

Personally I'd rather the ship battles (if they are ever added to the game - this in itself could be a huge debate) were turn-based mini-games rather than RTS (that said; I did love the homeworld games - in fact, I think I just might re-install ;-)).

The problem with adding ships battles is that it would likely either be:

(a) fairly simplistic (and perhaps of questionable value within the context of a large scale strategy game - although a simple on/off toggle would solve this) or
(b) require a huge number of additions/changes to the tech trees/ship modules to make it tactically enjoyable (i.e. give enough options to be worth the focus)

This is already a great debate thats been going on for some time. The devs have stated that tactical battles will not be in Gal Civ. If you want something like this, do what Zubaz suggested above and get SoSE.

I dont know of a particular thread, but if you're interested, in past posts you will find a few on this topic.

Indeed. The debate is in the "common topics" thread which is a sticky at the top of the message board.

You can find it Here

That said; the official position is that it won't happen in GC2, but that it may in a future sequel (i.e. Galciv III).
