TotA Super Warrior

Not sure if this is working or not. Okay 95% of the time it seems to work as advertised. But there are maybe 5% of cases where the enemy shoots back in the first round. Almost always, in the one game I am trying this in, there are 0 damage done so same difference. However there is at least one case where I got jumped by a ship I presume coming off a planet and it actually attacked 'first'. I got to shoot back but meantime one of my ships died in the one round of combat as I destroyed the bushwhacker in the first round.

Is this supposed to only be in effect when 'attacking' or should it be in effect all the time?
Note that near as I can tell the AI does not deal with a human 'Super Warrior' well at all. If the bonus only applies when attacking it missed several chances to wipe me out by attacking me and let me just whittle away at two stacks of 30 or so 5-ship fleets (that is about 300 ships, like half the Drengin navy) over the course of three turns just following the stacks and taking a bunch of 1 movement point attacks. Thanks to the weaponry and lack of defense almost every attack by each weapon killed a ship. Luckily for the other races the Arceans are so crippled by their lack of speed at start that it seldom matters so much (I confess I am using a custom race created in the lack of that feature for the beta by modding the xml file). Then again, I recall saying something like this about the AI military in general after one other game then getting absolutely trounced the next time (though more by military production than by naval, er, astro, tactics), so stand by on that one.

Super Warrior's first strike only happens when attacking, as far as I remember.

Thanks, interesting.

They really ought to actually spell that out in the description that it only applies when attacking. Can lead some nasty suprises if you do not know that! That also means it is kind of a dud with the default Arceans because with their very low speeds they do not get to attack as much.

And problably the AI ought to take that into account and come out after them instead of waiting to die. Those two Drengin stacks of 30 5-ship fleets just kept chugging along right past my cruisers and let me pick them off a fleet at a time without ever attacking me.

Well, if those were Super Dominator Corvettes, then they would've died regardless. They kind of suck beyond maybe the third week of the first war.

Valid point, though.

Valid, too, that the Drengin should be getting better Corvettes as the game progresses. Tit for tat - it's a fair scheme.

mostly the fleets were something like 2 heavy fighters and 2 super dom corvettes and maybe 1 frigate, but even so my cruisers (and there not so many, actually had none completed when the furry reptiles declared war on me, and two fleets of 3 basically took out 2 stacks of 30 5-ship fleets) are small-hull ships with no defense and space for a couple warp drives but killer, killer load of psyonic beam attacks (not what it once was now that it is at almost the end of the tech tree) so it would much better for him to take me out by attacking me rather than waiting for me to wipe him out.
Absolutely nothing ingenious. I would attack a few fleets when I caught them, then he would ignore me and move four spaces, then I would catch up and attack some more, Since a couple warp engines (speed and weapons having been my #1 researh priority) gave me much better movement I was able to wipe out the entire two stacks in about three, maybe four, turns if I recall. on the other hand if he had attacked I had no defenses on my ships he would have probably wiped me out with 300 ships and saved his own green reptile skin to boot!

It was only after this that I had the one time a fleet jumped one of mine from somewhere, must have launched from a nearby planet, and I lost a cruiser on the first round of combat (but destroyed his fleet). This took me by suprise because I presumed by this point from the way the AI was playing me that the Super Warrior bonus worked both ways.

Plus the Drengin, even with ME off, had some kind of event where they (supposedly, me, I will never believe it) turned into peaceful good folks. Still went to war with me though, of course I _am_ the evil wicked 'Dark Arceans'.
