They've done it again!

Aside from some economic quarks with the latest version of the beta, I have to say that stardock has done it again. When this game is finished it is going to be a masterpeice! The unique tech trees and other additions make this game feel much more deep than its predescessors (which were still some of the best strategy games i've played).

-That being said there are two issues i've noticed in the latest beta

#1 - I think something like this has been around since GalCiv 2 (original). In the economic window it the bc per turn you make is different than the number shown when you hover your mouse over your treasury in the corner. Now if you save, the number shows when hovering over your treasury changes to the number in the economic window. This has probly been mentioned before, but I haven't seen it so I just decided to post it.

#2 - It seems that after all the Galactic resources have been taken the AI races (major and minors) start spamming the players (or who ever has the most Influence) homeworld with influence star bases. This is very agrivating since it makes it near impossible to build ones own starbases close to the homeworld. Besides limiting the spammed players starbases around the homeworld I see no strategic value for the AI to do this. It would make more since to build those around that civs boarders, or closer to some planets that could actually revolt. - anyone else notice this?

Yes, I've noticed influence starbase spamming in Dark Avatar and Twilight games fairly frequently. I once had six minor race-built influence starbases around my homeworld, which ultimately led to said race's conquest.

I haven't noticed that much influence sb spamming by the majors but yes on the minors. In my games the majors seldom build influence bases in my territory but the sure build a bunch of econ sb.

Are you building influence bases in their space? I don't and they seem to reciprocate.

Whenever I play the first mission in the DL campaign, the Altarians start building several influence starbases around my planets.

I don't see major races do it so much elsewhere, though.

Ya in my current game the Terran's and Thalan as well as 3 minors have build influence bases around my home planets. I have build an influence base in the Iconias territory, but not besides that. They need to put in a diplomatic option were you force them to remove the base.

I have also seen this behavior; the Krynn have just built three maxed-out (to their tech level) influence SBs right by my homeworld; I haven't built a single influence SB all game, so it's not retaliation.

I've always thought it odd that building starbases in an opponent's territory wasn't considered a hostile act. I mean, putting influence SBs right next to a world is pretty aggressive in my book; military SBs (which I've also seen the AI put in my territory) even more so. It would be nice to have some ability to tell a civ to remove the SBs in my territory or else; as it is, I have no ability to explain to them why I'm about to nuke them back into the stone age.

Yeah, it bothers me that the AI can say "Your starbase in this location is a threat, and we will respond accordingly," but we can't pick a unit of theirs and say "We see this as a threat. Get rid of it."

I would love to have the option to request that the AI trash starbases, as opposed to handing them over. For some reason, I can occasionally put my entire empire up for sale and still not be able to buy one not-maxed-out starbase.

lol I know. They could atlest make it were you have to refund the cost of the constructor + cost of construction that they spet to build to have them remove it.

You do in a way. You can demand that they gift you the base and declare war if they don't. Not much different from what they do. They may tell you to pound sand but you might tell them the same if the shoe was on the other foot. If you want to stop short of war, you could embargo them. I'll admit that I have never done that and I don't know what effect it has. I have declared war due to sb incursion.

I can't recall off hand if turning off tech trading also stops ship exchange and gifting but you can put the heat on the AI by demanding their stuff and/or tribute.

I agree that it would be nice to have more dialogue available for diplomatic situations like this.

Im wondering though if the AI is coded so that It knows your demanding the starbase because its in your territory, and not just because you want it. Im guessing not, since it would be pretty difficult to get the AI to assume something like this. You could embargo them, but I don't think the AI would be able to relize you are doing it because they wouldn't remove the starbase.

sorry It double posted for some reason

On the contrary, since you can't explain why and ask them to simply dismantle the starbase, it's not even the same thing.

I've got a screenshot somehwere that shows a literal CLOUD of Paulos constructers around my homeworld. It's even worse than the Inf SB spam because the cloud is dragging the speed of the game down.

I doubt the AI is able to realize it, but in a way constantly buying spammed Inf SBs simply encourages them to build more so you will be forced to buy them too. There needs to be a way for the player to demand the dismantling of foreign SBs.

I actually favor minors building constructors....they keep them safe from my enemies and I snatch them when I conquer their nice class 15 planet! :d

I too like that they build constructors, though I wish they would do something more productive and less anoying than spam influence starbases (especially considering minors have no influence)

I'd vote for a "remove your influence starbases" demand in the diplomacy screen, sounds like a good idea.

Or select the offending SB on the map click an option to send a demand to the AI to remove that specific SB. It might be a pain to have to do that to an entire SB cloud, though.
